How do i hand out my CV?

Ok, well I plan on handing out my CV sometime this week around the shops on the high street, looking fo a summer job.

So how do I do this? Do i just go up to the till and say something like:

'Hi, I'm looking for a job over summer, could I give you my CV in case any jobs are available then?'

I will include a cover letter saying the date from which I can start.

I'll be back at uni in a couple weeks until july, so obviously cant do interviews til then, but think its best to apply now.

This is my first time trying to get a job so im a bit clueless :s-smilie:

Thanks

lol. If you are aware they have vacancies you can hand in a CV with a covering letter tailored to that position. "I'm applying for (insert position)".

Or you can just go in and ask about vacancies randomly and/or give them your CV anyway. This way if a job comes up, they have your details. Just go in, be polite and hand it over.

Try having a look online. For many places you can apply online now.

Try sending a cover letter with a CV in one straight to the manager in the post.

That way it will get to them and wont be binned by any other members of staff... Thats how i got my job atleast...

Definitely look online, check out major retailers like Boots and John Lewis, that kind of thing. If you're going around the high street asking, literally just go up to an assistant and ask if there's going to be any positions avalible this summer. If yes, give them your CV, if not sure, still give them your CV :p: Good luck

Face to face contact is best, network if you can.
Go looking smart/casual.
Check your CV on http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=339
+Remember to use good paper.

"Hi there, I was just wondering if you have any vacancies for part time staff at the moment?"

.......

"No, well okay thanks very much for your help. Is it okay for me to leave a CV with you in case anything becomes available? Thanks"

Make sure you look fairly smart when coming in. Just ask if there's any work available and whatever they say just ask to give them your CV. Make sure you go EVERYWHERE in the high street and any other shops around to maximize your chances of getting a job

This thread is four years old...don't bother resurrecting threads that old.

The information is still useful for people that make searches online on similar topics. People like me for example

The information is now out of date. Due to data protection laws and GDPR many employers will not take physical CVs due to the personal data contained on them and the need to properly process and store that data.

Don’t bother, most of those go into the bin and most retailers will tell you to apply online as per their policy. You’ll only have luck in smaller independent stores if they have a sign at their window.

I agree.
Some places actually require you to apply online nowadays.

Yeah, perhaps don't physically hand in your CV. I'd only do that if you know someone there personally, or they've given you a hint that you have a good chance of getting the position. You can save energy by using indeed.com. I've landed plenty of jobs there.

Ah got it. Thanks for that. What would you suggest is the best way to make your CV accessible to a potential employer? Emailing their HR department?

Just applying for jobs and having your CV publicly available on CV library or Monster or any of those kinds of sites.

Make sure someone checks your CV, not a teacher or school "adviser", they tend to be clueless, cover letter is not usually needed. Majority of places will just point you towards their website or hiring agency.
