I really must find a job there otherwise I am gonna be penniless. :frown:.
Anyone here is having a part-time job at Warwick Uni or Coventry? Is it hard to find a job there?

Yep, it's easy. Loads of bars/shops/restaurants in Leamington and Coventry, and lots of jobs on campus. I think you have to join unitemps or something like that. The standard rate of pay on campus is around £6 an hour I believe. Ask Mangomaz, she works in the union!

Thank you. But do you think it's harder to find a job for international students?

Doubt it. Guess you'll need some sort of work permit or something, you'll have to find out about that, but they certainly won't discriminate as long as you speak English of a reasonable standard.

I just applied for a job at the Library, and at the interview they told me there was over 100 applicants:eek: Im international, I've been working at various places since I was 13, have a two page CV and an excellent reccomodation from my last job at a law firm in Oslo, Norway, yet I have not gotten a single job through unitemps yet (and I've applied to 12 or 13, including one day mailshots and the like).

When you apply you have to click if you are EU or not. Im not EU, I'm Norwegian, so I'm EEA and can work in all EU countries on the same level/hours as EU citizens, but do they have EEA as an option??? no... I dont know why I havent gotten a job yet, really, I've done it all, from delivering newspapers to being a waitress, to preparing food for a catering company, working in a jazz speciality store, working in a clothing store (4 years), working as an office assistant in a law firm (2 years)... And I have never been rejected before, so my first rejection was though, the library job is the first interview I got.

I'm lucky Im going back to Norway this summer where I'm working two part time jobs, one as an office assistant in the law firm I used to work in, and one as a tourist guide (I speak many languages, had a summer job with them last year as well).

I work at Currys in Coventry and have got the job through transfering from my part-time job from home. Most ppl looking for a part-time job do so, by looking at the campus it self, i.e. the union, unitemps, warwick graduates etc... However as there is so much competition for these jobs and temp agencies in England in general are a pile of sh*te, not many people get jobs on campus. If I was you I would apply for retail jobs in Cov city centre, plenty of shops so in theory plenty of jobs especially if your willing to work sundays (very busy) and less dense competition.... however on the downside the money is not as good as it is working on campus...but a job is a job, you can always take a crap paying job and still be looking elsewhere for something better

I really wanna get a job in the Union when I get there. But I've actually never worked before! (Expect I'l probs be working in the summer) Do you guys think that my short work experience will disadvantge when lookin for a job on Campus, or even outside, like in Coventry? If I dont get a job I will be skint!

i never had a single job before in my entire life before i started at the union so dont worry about that. it might be a bigger disadvantage when looking in cov etc... but if they really need people and they see that ur relatively intelligent u shud b ok.
i would really recommend a job on campus tho, espesh as it means u dont have to spend a long time travelling etc and theyr also really flexible cz they no ur students here to study so if u say u really cant do a shift because of deadlines etc or exams theyr ok with it (providing u give enough notice). and exam time i think they plan rotas around wen u say u can work rather than other places wer i think they wudnt really care.

What about national insurance number? Is it disadvantage if I don't have it? I remember they always asked for it when you applied for a job. But the thing is I can't have NI if I don't have any job ...

You might like to email Unitemps explaining your situation. It may be that the EU box really means EU/EEA and they haven't thought about it too hard!
