kings accommodation - whats the best place to stay?

hi, im having a terrible time deciding where to pick!

im gonna be reading law so will be at waterloo campus and maybe strand. my 1st instinct was to go from SS and GDS but are they really that unsocial? being a first year i really want to make friends..
my 1st seems to be wolfson, but people say its quite shabby? is that true? and also how many people do u share bathroom etc with?
same goes with KCH, which is my 2nd atm, how many do u share between?
intercollegiate seems cool to, almost as sociable as KCH but the food is a problem with this option from what ive heard...

would really help with your views on sharing wise (with bathroom and kitchen and generally how clean they are), with the various accomm and whats the best to socialise:smile:
Firstly, read the other accommodation threads in this sub-forum as they are quite a few.

Halls are what you make of them. I know people who were in SSA and GDSA who had great social lives, and then those that didn't. You may meet fewer people in these halls, but you can make friends on your course and in societies - and they might live in your hall, so you can meet their hall friends. If you go out on the weekend/first week with those in your halls, you should meet lots of people. Take advantage of any opportunity, even though local tours that halls put on (or at least they did 3 years ago when i was in SSA), as you can meet people on these.

I've never been to Wolfson but it's in a good location for Waterloo campus. Really do read the other threads though, lots of advice in there.

Intercoll food isn't that bad  and KCH is catered as well.

Intercolls have shared bathrooms, which are actually really clean! Well... except some saturday nights :eek3:

There are all great for socializing!
great dover street has great social lifes, its like a 2 min from guys campus, and every wednesday night people go to guys bar. also its like a 5 min walk from ministry of sound club.

but i would choose Stanford Street, because of the location, but KCL recieves like 3-4k applicants for only 350 places

Wolfson House is only shabby on the outside, the inside is quite nice. Kitchens are shared with many though and can get messy, that's the downside to Wolfson and Hampstead which are otherwise uber-fun because they're so big and social.

I lived at Stamford Street and I did personally find it more anti-social than halls would have been. However if you're doing law you'll have 9.00 lectures and being able to leave for them at 8.55 was much appreciated by my law-studying friends there...
Intercollegiate food is disgusting, but you're not going to get nice food anywhere catered! They're a relatively good location as well, about 20 minutes rush hour journey if you get the bus or about 30 minute walk if you're feeling active! Plus in a really nice area in general!

Waterloo - it sounds awful but its really not that bad. most of the people I sit with in lectures walk there and back every day. Most of the time I want a little bit extra in bed so I just bus it, but I'm fine walking if its sunny or the afternoon. It's a lot less of a mission than Hampstead, I have a friend who lives there and it takes her like 55 minutes to get in! I'd rather live in intercollegiates and have super fun party times and travel a little to get to lectures than live in Stamford St and roll out of bed and into them. (although to be fair I am immensely jealous of anyone that lives there whenever I'm in a lecture at 9am)

Ah Waterloo. I guess that's where I'm gonna be sitting my lectures too (Business management). Yeah I mean, if the weather's fine it shouldn't be a problem. Probably helps waking up aswell... And I guess I should've gotten used to rain having lived in Belgium for 14 years :P

What you say about SSA is exactly why I'd rather stay elsewhere, but to be honest, the 1 minute walk to lecture doesn't sound bad at all  but having heard all the antisocial stuff about it, I think I'll play safe and go for the parties and stick with an intercollegiate
As I've said in other threads, based on my knowledge I'd go for KCH, or Wolfson. I would say Hampstead if the location wasn't quite such a bummer. Anyway, those are the best places to have a good time and not cost the earth.

I've firmed for medicine, so am at guy's campus and am trying to decide between GDSA and Stamford Street as first choice. what size are the rooms roughly at GDSA and SS? how does the apartment-style accommodation compare to wolfson?

thanks
I am coming to KCL for my PhD program. This is my first time and its my first year. I would like to seek advice on which is the best place to apply for accomodation. I am looking for a place which is closer to Strand Campus.

Anybody could help me? Thank you.

GDSA and Stamford Street rooms are quite small and they are the same size as eachother (some rooms just happen to be slighlty bigger due to being in a corner or structural reasons). The bathroom in Stamford is slightly bigger than at GDSA. I've lived at both places.

Stamford Street is a 10-15 walk away, definitely the closest one to Strand Campus.

i study law and was in stamford street for my first year... it's odd, ssa was very social when i was there - i knew pretty much everyone in my block, and had friends in each different block (and from a huge mix of subjects too), so i never understand why everyone else finds it anti social! my year definitely wasn't. ssa is very helpful for the first year law timetable (there's usually some 9ams) and i found it v helpful to be across the road from lectures as i could cart my laptop over there, and work in the library any time. for law, the compulsory modules are usually at waterloo, because that's got the biggest lecture theatre, but tutorials can be at waterloo or strand. either way, ssa is a great location for them and i hardly ever used my oyster in first year because i walked everywhere - it's so central. it's also really handy for going to anything at uni outside of lectures/tutorials - the gym is round the corner, society events might be at strand/waterloo/guys and they're all easy to walk to, tutus/waterfront...

i've also lived at hampstead residence and i love it there  rooms are much bigger than at stamford street, and i personally prefer the area - it's nice to be a little further out imo, and the cheaper rent makes up for the travelling.

SSA is hugely overhyped.

Which is the best place for medical undergraduates, please? Wolfson, Great Dover street both seem near the Guy's. I did not attend the open day so am unable to decide which is better. Also, will we have to move out at the end of the year/. If so, how easy is it to find accommodation else where? Thanks for your time.

Hi - which accommodation were you allocated in the end? Do you like it?
