"2.5 per cent of the British population, account for 10 per cent of its economic output, generating £103 billion into the economy"

Thats pretty amazing.

Yeah, it's alright, init?

Just shows that the productivity of British Asians is immense and if only the enthusiastic career/education-driven qualities encouraged so much by the elders was somehow incorporated into the English Culture, the UK would be so much better. Not that I'm complaining or anything.

I remember reading more Sikhs own their own homes than any other faith.

Good for them!

Yeah agreed, but getting the work/leisure balance is an important thing.

Those asians are doing it.

Reply 7

Most of the asians I know are all rich tbh.

Reply 8

I find this very hard to believe, most of the Asians I come across are staffing ethnic restaurants.

Not to downplay the statistic, but I find this is true for the most part.

I guarantee you all of the top universities (no - that does not include lancaster) have more than 2.5% asian student population.

The article uses the phrase 'Asians' but tbh they should just change it to Indians/Chinese. Restaurant staff are predominately Bangladeshi.

Lol you silly sod, just saw you're from Devon which explains. Asia is the largest continent on earth, so can you understand that many different Asians exist?

Indians and Chinese are very prosperous, the restaurant staff are Bengali's/Tamils etc.

Just out of interest How high is unemployment in the Asian community?

"2.5 per cent of the British population, account for 10 per cent of its economic output, generating £103 billion into the economy"

That figure means roughly that each Asian is generating £69,000

I don't deny that Asians have a higher economic punch then the rest of the population but lets be serious - when we say Asian we really mean the Chinese here. There's nothing special about the "achievements" of Indians or Pakistanis relative to the rest of the population - it's always the Chinese - and they're as different from other Asians as Europeans are.

I would like to see the same statistic just for the Chinese, it would be interesting.

I still don't believe the headline statistic though, the original article doesn't state how they arrived at that figure and from previous experience I treat number crunching done by journalists with extreme caution.

omg that little, well all i know is there is still alot of discrimination, but now because of the credit crunch they will have to start recruiting us - now its little to do with background and more to do to with - can u make me money

Reply 17

Do you know how much they cost society though? Costs far outweigh the benefits.

Come to where I am and see how well these asian people(mainly Indians/Pakistani/Sri Lankans) are doing. A lot of these asian people come over for the opportunities that you have here and so they work as hard as they can, I'd probably say the second generation were more lazy though lol
