UCL bloomsbury gym is absolutely lovely  So long as you don't mind the annual fee you can use it whenever you like. No idea about basketball but I'd imagine there are plenty of teams and societies there (I haven't started my course yet). The ULU is nearby which has a basketball court you can hire out for an hour.

I know there is loads of football, the law faculty even has its own team

i don't know from personal experience, but all the uni teams are competitive in terms of trials and things like that, but there are all sorts of societies and clubs that cater for a lot of sports.

and yeah the bloomsbury gym is great, the ULU is also good and has a swimming pool, but money-wise you'd generally have to pick one or the other...

I'm planning on picking the Bloomsbury, and then using the ULU occassionally for swimming paying £2 a go I think

The sports ground at Shenley is amazing - by far the best of all UoL colleges.
Quiksilver - what do people do at UCL if they just wanna go somewhere to kick a ball around?

there's several things:

1. hire out a hall, i know there's one in ULU, maybe possibly astor college as well (but i think thats reserved for societies, i'm not too sure on that)

2. there are some outdoor cages i think there is one nearish euston on the way to camden town

3. regents park, or any park for that matter, especially during summer, where its a hell of a laugh
Cheers! I wasn't sure if you were allowed to play ball games in these parks...
