I know someone who did and it got really painful and they had to go to hospital to get them removed. Apparently there is a risk of ripping the cornea when this is donee. BTW, what's wrong with just wearing specs.

Ive done it a couple of times and been fine, but not on purpose, apparently it stops the oxygen getting to your eyes and can cause hemorrages sp?

Wow that sounds mank.

Nothing wrong with wearing specs, I am wearing them now or when I study. TBH specs do not suit me, can look geeky, and you dont want to be looking like Bill gates at a party now do you - hence the reason why I wear lenses.

Yeh thats what they told me would happen if i wore my dispoable ones over night. When i go out i do just usually wear specs, as it takes me agesss to get my contacts out, especially if i came back late and was drunk.

Not a good idea; I sometimes wear coloured lenses for bit of a change when going out.....anyhoo, after ending up in hospital one night and having the lenses in for over 20 hours, the blood-shot redness from the infection (very nasty stuff) was there for a week...and that's just the one time! I swear, I think I cried pus....Sorry for the graphics, but it was so much more trouble than it was worth for green eyes....

I always carry a flat (not barrel) lenses case when I'm out anyway and shlep the solution too just in case; its worth it

depends what type of lenses you have. my boyfriend had day and nights for a while, where you just left them in, but then changed to disposables because it works out cheaper for him at uni (it's kind of "pay as you go" and because he wears his glasses quite a bit as well they last him longer)

a few days after he changed to disposables we went out one night, and the next morning he was confused as to why everything was blurry, and got worse when he put his glasses on...then realised he hadn't taken them out...he said it's uncomfortable but not too bad.

I have worn 2 week disposables ever since I was 13, and have ALWAYS slept in them. My optician said you could halve the shelf-life of them and wear them 24 hours (so you can use 2 week lenses for 1 week if you never take them out, or one month lenses for two weeks, etc).

I never had any problems, but then a new kind of lense was developed about 18 months ago called "Focus Night and Day" which are designed to be worn 24 hours a day for one month at a time. I've been using them for just over a year now and they are great, and my optician is much happier with me now, because although she said the other way was okay, it wasn't ideal. These new lenses are supposed to allow 10 times more oxygen to your eyes than normal soft contacts.

I wonder if some of the previous posts about having contacts surgically removed from your cornea referred to hard contacts? Those you can definately not sleep in.

Why do you sleep with your contacts on a regular bases? One thing I find irritating about wearing lenses is that if I wear my lenses for hours on end, my eyes get sore and dry :frown:

I walked into a metal statue while drunk (the resonance from the metal was quite surreal), hence the hospital trip, then the nurses looked so 'run-off-their-feet' in the ward that I was too shy to ask for saline for the lenses when I came round.... I like the way one side of my head now feels slightly larger than the other

Wow, that must feel strange (different head size). Does the image in your avater reflect this?

The picture reflects the closest I could get to affiliating myself with ideals I truely believe in; Stewie is someone who I'd like to emulate in some ways....

The 'new' head shape is a subtle difference; it's only the bfs who notice in the scheme of things....

why don't you get a pack of "day and nights" and save them for party situations?

That is probably a good idea. However I have head they are much more costly then a 3 months supply.

If you want to sleep in contacts you should get the kind that you can sleep in, ask your optician for advice. However, they cost around £30 a month, quite pricy.

I wouldn't recommend anyone sleep in their contacts, although I have done it a few times, when you wake up your eyes feel really funny. Not only that there's a danger they make split in your eye when your asleep.

I'm a 20/20 kind of person, so I wouldn't know ;_;

but a bit extra cash sure beats the hell out of a corneal ulcer

Is *jealous* that you are a 20/20 person.

Yes. It is a bit of a pain going to parties and carrying solutions (can make you look like one right weirdo lol), otherwise as you rightly mention I could risk getting a corneal ulcer  I would spend the extra cash on the night/day packs, but I'd rather distribute my cash on other more important areas i.e. Buying a few more extra pints on my night out  Which is money well spent!
Yeah, it does depend on the lenses that you get, My mum used to have to take hers out at night and put new ones on in the morning until her optician told her about ones that you can keep in more or less constantly for 30 days at a time. They may be a lil more expensive, but I guess the advanages of not stumbling around in the middle of the night looking for your glasses would be good. Tho I think you need to take a test first to ensure that your eyes will accept the 30 day ones without any adverse affects.

depends how much you wear your glasses. for my boyfriend, it's cheaper, because probably 3 days a week he wears his glasses (he does a lot of work on the computer and prefers glasses for that).

surely you don't look that weird - people will understand why you're doing it!

I wear my glasses at home , when I am studying or doing computer work (such as graphic designing/animating) . I wear lenses everytime I go out, or on other social outings.

So yeah, I wear my contacts pretty regularly.

I was being sarcastic, imagine having a contact lens solution sticking out your pocket at a party (they are pretty large bottles) lol. It's such a pain contact lenses are, really they are
