Just do 6 of each past paper making sure your consistently getting the mark you want

i know someone who did further maths and for one module did:

every single question in the text book
every past paper possible
every question in another text book of the same spec
the specimen and mock paper
got the teacher to make questions
moved to another board with similar specification and did all past papers there

out of 100 UMS, she got 97... takes the piss init?

:lolwut: really? Now I would call THAT dedication!
Maths isn't about how good you are; you could know all the material and still drop a few marks...

If you want full marks then no.

If however you just want all As or lower than yes. There's a point to which you will be doing way more work than is needed to achieve or scrape the A grade. However just to be sure you get the grades you want over revise. Just do it as this is your last chance! (I feel like such a hippocrite, I've done next to nothing today...thanks for reminding me to get off my backside lol).

the person i was talking about was very good at maths and clearly loved it alot, i have no idea how those 3 ums marks were dropped, but it was quite funny because of all that preparation and 'over revision'

I'd say you could do too much in the sense of stressing yourself out, and not leaving enough time to do other things in your life.

Of course, if you could realistically spend every hour of every day revising, without any impact on anything else, then sure that'd be awesome.

is there some type of set rule of thumb bout how much revision to do, i no answer like until u understand it etc.. but i dont no want that it and its more difficult to plan when u dont know how time to revise for each exam ? i heard 50 hrs per as exam is this true ? is t a case of the more revision the best or is there a limit

I really ******* hope not, because I've done **** all.

(But to be fair I work very hard over the year, I just get very lazy with revision because I hate it so much..)

Oh and btw, revising by "Oh I'll do 3 hours today" etc. is just stupid. It's better to think, "Okay, I'll learn topic x today and topic y tomorrow. Then the day after I'll go over them both again just to make sure I understand."

And it is definitely possible to over-revise, because you end up getting yourself completely wound up and start getting stressed and forgetting things. Plus, if you knacker yourself out your concentration is going to end up at 0.

yes you can over revise.. i dont think its the actual looking through notes part but the stress and hype surrounding it.

i mean some people can happily just go through their notes everyday and do fine

while others tend to rush around, get their books out, concentrate SOOOO hard, then do some practice Q's etcc then at the end of the day complain that they are either hungry or tired or have a headache.

just relax.

Only 97. She must have been quite rubbish then as with that much effort you should be able to comfortably make 100. In maths quite a lot of people score 100 just by doing past papers alone.

Definitely possible to over revise. Everytime I learn something new it pushes something old out..

Reply 12

Yes it's possible, you end up tiring yourself out. Trust me I should know, I ended up failing with flying colors (C and D). Thank god that was for my mocks, I did much better in the exam after much convincing from people that I don't need to revise so much.

This basically. :yep:

Obviously people do different amounts but it is possible to do so much that nothing goes in, it's all about quality of revision, not quantity.

Over revising is where you focus too much on one area that doesn't actually come up in the exam and neglecting the one that does.
