I wanted to live in Bristol and could see myself working here in years to come. Also, I found Vicky Pollard sexually attractive.

Choose the six from ones I liked the look of and I knew were good (also a slight range of entry requirements). Chose Durham as my firm because it was the only one I could imagine living at for four years and I just totally fell in love with it on the open day.

it seemed the obvious choice for me. it was just the university i knew of. that sounds trite, i know, but i still love this place.. :p:

more rational decision making other than it being my favourite course included:

location - proximity to home = close enough yet far enough away
city - medium sized, can walk baiscally everywhere i need to & plenty of shops, cinema, ice rink etc. yet still parks & gardens. very good transport links to london & friends at uni there
financial - best deal of accomodation & hardship funds

i chose three that i liked, then put down another three that seemed good uni's and did my course. in the end chose my 4th choice, cos the others said no! so pick about 5 good ones and 1 back up

I only got three offers, Glasgow, Durham and Bangor. I never wanted to go to Bangor really in the first place, i think if that was my only offer i would have reapplied, thinking about it. So it was between Durham and Glasgow. Went to both, liked them both equally, but prefered Glasgow as a city, and i liked the structure of the course and the fact that i don't have to specialise to the third year. After a lot of uming and ahing, Glasgow was the one

Hi I was wondering what influenced you to choose the university you wanted to attend? Other than the department is very good at teaching the course you wanted to do?

The university buildings and facilities influenced me. :p:

I was influenced by a number of things equaly
a- i loved the structure of the course, the modules offered, the exchange partners in the USA
b- i love the university, i had a great tour guide and the people i met on the day were friendly, faulty were helpful and i got an overall great feel for the place!

Other than the usual (great course  - main deciding factor really), reputation was a factor, plus I really liked the look and 'feel' of the place when I visited. Ultimately I tried to think long-term, with a view to career prospects but more importantly my own happiness.

i'm going to sussex.

it's the only university that does the course i want to do. i liked the idea of being on the south coast (the sea improves my hayfever and also it's sunnier!). i liked the idea of a campus uni near a lively city. it's far enough away from home to be very different but not too far to pop home if need be (2-2 1/2 hours)

and when i went to visit i just loved the atmosphere there!

Going to Reading because I like the course and I'll be able to live with my other half while I'm there (and afterwards, obviously!).

Durham - bee-yoo-ti-ful city, not too small not too big, great reputation, very flexible course, far from home (about 5 hours), don't know anyone there.
Warwick - great reputation, nice campus, my best friend's there and loves it.

I picked Cambridge mostly because of the good faculty (law). Apart from that, I liked the structure of the subject (some degree of flexibility), social environment, physical environment, prospects (for jobs, postgrad study, etc.), and---ok, I'll admit it---reputation.

I got and offer and had my heart set on Cardiff until I went to an Open Day, where I spoke to a Politics lecturer who just seemed bored, uninterested in his subject and seemed to view prospective and current students as rather annoying. I also realised after my visit to Cardiff that I really would prefer to go to a campus university, where everything's readily available and there's more of a student community and I can just roll out of bed ten minutes before a lecture. So, I accepted my offers from Swansea as it is campus based, it offers an amazing course which appears to be very flexible and which includes a year in America, the students that showed me round were lovely, as were the staff (one lecturer was also very good looking, not that that swayed my decision in the slightest :p: ) and the university is literally across the road from the sea and some gorgeous beaches. I absolutely cannot wait to be a student there, if I don't get the grades I'll be mortified.

I didn't choose my university - I was transferred there. But it's a great place and I'm enjoying myself there, so I can't really complain...

Course mainly, nothing much really like it; also my bf lives down here and i fell in love with the place

Cambridge- fantastic course and I fell in love with the city. Still love it...love the entry requirements slightly less.
Durham- good course, read well in the prospectus. When I visited, I really liked the atmosphere.

I applied to Bristol cos I thought the course would be good, Sheffield cos their facilities are excellent, Cardiff cos it's fairly close to home, with a good rep for engineering and Swansea so I'd be pretty sure of getting in somewhere.

At the end of the day, it was a combination of course and the atmosphere of each city.

The international reputation and focus of both overall university (London) and specific institution (SOAS). The superb provision for language learning and links with organisations such as the MOD, FCO etc. The federal nature of UoL itself which gives greater flexibility in courses as a result of the huge range of constituent institutions. The quality of the department (one of three 6* departments in the UK, one of two in UoL) and the subject area (Asia,Middle East,Africa) which is highly relevant to my career path upon graduation (Military most likely, possibly FCO or similiar). The location of the university in Europes most important city.

Nottingham (Mathematical Physics)

The Campus...

- Very attractive green campus with all accommodation in close proximity.
- 15 minutes to a cosmopolitan city center with a great night life focused at students.
- I know several people who go and they all love it.
- I went out in Nottingham the night before my interview and had a fantastic time.

The City...

- Sort of 'halfway' between Leeds and London so I can get to either without too much effort.

The Course...

- The people showing me around where all very enthusiastic and seemed genuinely happy with there course and university life (contrary to a few places I went).
- Clearly some thought has gone into structuring the degree to get the amount of mathematics and physics in good proportions.
- Flexibility in the 3rd and 4th year.
- Strong research in Mathematical Physics which I would be interested in pursuing in my 4th year project.
- Nottingham seems to have a good reputation in general, with the mathematics and physics departments been rated highly in THES.

Sort of think ill be happy there really! The only itching I have is about the crime (perhaps I should stop reading this forum!) But in reality all the poeple who I have actually spoken say it's not a pressing issue.
