I find the excessive use of emoticons an infallible sign of brain-damage if that's any use to you.

There are many things that can cause memory problems. The use of drugs, such as marijuana, inhalants, alcohol or ecstasy can all affect your ability to remember things. Depression, anxiety, and stress are also some of the more common causes of memory loss in teenagers. Not getting enough calories to fuel your body can make your brain work slower and have problems remembering things because it needs a lot of energy to function properly. Certain vitamins and minerals are also important for your memory, including iron, which brings oxygen to the brain and is found in foods such as red meat, certain seafood, some kinds of beans and dried fruit, and the B vitamins, which are found in foods such as nonfat milk and yogurt, wheat germ, bananas, seafood, whole grains and green peas. Not getting enough sleep at night or taking certain medications can make you have trouble concentrating on things, and can also lead to memory problems. Some things that are much more common in older people, such as traumatic brain injury (even if mild), stroke, thyroid problems, hormonal imbalances, or high blood pressure can hurt your memory, too.
