Transferring to MMU

Hey,
I'm currently doing psychology & sociology at Surrey, and i'm wanting to transfer to MMU next year for a straight psychology course, i'd have to go into first year again because it looks like i'm gonna fail my first year here (i can't get my head around the sociology modules!). If MMU knows i failed my first year, are they likely to accept me? I got BCC (sociology, psychology and english respectively) for my a-levels.

One of the biggest reasons for choosing MMU is because i miss being in a city, having grown up in London.

Cheers for any advice guys.

There's no harm in giving them a ring, Dipak, that way you'll know what kind of decision they'll come to. I don't know whether they'd want you to drop out now and apply through Extra or wait and try and get in through Clearing, but you definitely need to be proactive and find out what they want from you. The other pro of that is that if you take an early interest in moving they'll like you more.

I do psychology and sociology at MMU, I needed 280 ucas points to enter, I only had 2 full a levels and 2 as levels (but came to 350 points) and got in. My AS results were a D in psychology and a C in sociology, so they weren't looking for much as they accepted me, I was predicted a B though, but I got an A in the end  I'm not sure where they stand with you having dropped out last year, but they seem to be quite understanding! I didn't go many sociology lectures last year (my first year) and I didn't do any coursework but I attended the exams. They still let me into my second year when I barely scraped 40% in all my modules (even in psychology) I just had to resit 2 essays. If you write a cover note about why your moving etc, have you any grades from psychology which show it was only sociology you didn't like/had trouble with? I would give it ago, as there are a lot of places, and I think most people think man met is a pants uni anyway.

There seems to have been quite a high drop out rate in my course as well, and in my second year combined honours were grouped with single honours and part time etc because you choose which modules you want to do.

I'd defo reccommend trying! From discussing the psych degree with people doing it at other unis MMU has a good teaching scheme (kinda thing), and the lecturers are lovely

I'm not sure what else to say, but if you have questions about the course I'll help you out, also with accomm and just general things, like Jangra will as well I'm sure.

Go for it mate, you'll get into MMU with those grades and the politics & philosophy department is quite well run. I've been in Manchester for a few years so let me know if you need help with anything, too.

Could always apply for Salfod as a back up (even though its a better university I think)
