Would you consider dating someone who used to be your teacher? Like, if you've already finished school/uni, and your former teacher is only, say, six or so years older than you.

Thoughts, complications, etc.?

Personally I don't think I would, if only because in age I prefer younger women, besides which there would likely be issues surrounding it, but if circumstances were completely different (ie she was angelina jolie or something ) then maybe just maybe.

Hmm. I guess it's different with guys and girls. For guys, it may partly be a question of whether they prefer *older* women.

But what about for females? Any thoughts?

What with my soon-to-be infamous lack of common sense, and the slightly important fact that I isn't a woman , I'd better refrain from commenting on this one.

Okay, sure, np
I know someone who goes out with a former teacher. They have a really good relationship.

A girl in my old school recently admitted to having an affair with a teacher (albeit quite a young one - 24 or so) when she was in year 11. She didn't stay on to sixth form though.

She said he was bad in bed :vroam:

If you could get over the weirdness of it all and no one is getting hurt why not?
I know of a girl who started dating a teacher when she was in Lower VIth and all the way through college. There's about 15 years age gap but they're now married. She's 23. I think clearly there are cicumstances where it can end happily but on the whole it's probably not a brilliant idea.

my friend dated her old teacher from sixth form, he wasnt that much older than her(5-6years) but the poor hun got ridiculed by all the other students she used to be with. And also the teacher was harrassed at the school he taught at, big time.
i guess if they had gotten together say years later, it wouldnt have been a big deal.
all my teachers had been bolding middle aged yuppies so i would not go there!
I always had a thing for my Film History professor last year. He looks like George Clooney with glasses...mmmm....

anyways, theres absolutely nothing with dating a teacher i think...

as long as ur out of high school and legal...

ahem...

oh and hes not married or in relationship...phew..almost forgot bout that important one

Thanks for all the replies

Nope, he's not married or anything. Things have just been getting a tad weird so I'm trying to form an opinion before anything substantial really happens.

Yeah, I guess it's partly an exercise in getting over the weirdness (if ever necessary!). Like, it might take a while to make a transition to being on a first-name basis.

I actually didn't think much of it until yesterday, when a friend told me that what I considered as plain friendliness and niceness actually seemed more than that. And this friend had actually been in a similar situation before so it really got me thinking. Hmm.

Same here! I'd met this girl's boyfriend and thought nothing of it, as he's not that much older than us, but when I found out that he was actually a teacher I was really surprised, as he seemed no different to any of us, just a bit older
oh I forgot to mention the case fom my old school where a year 11 knocked up an english teacher. Thery are now married, have two kids and live with his parents on a council estate.

you do seem to know a remarkable array of interestin people

I can't see a problem. I think that in most cases it wouldn't really work, but that doesn't mean that a specific case wouldn't. But there would be rather awful mutterings I would imagine.

"Hey Mum, remember Mr King...?"

I am having more trouble imagining Gonnabavet's conversation, however.....

Wow, there are a lot of stories about people dating former teachers! I thought that it was a rare thing.

I know someone who married a former teacher of hers. But from what I gather, whispers abound. Then again, the age gap in her case was much larger (like more than 15 years, I think--she's about 22; the guy was cute, but already had some gray hair)

Hmm. Yeah, there's probably nothing wrong with it; I think I'm personally just weirded out a bit about the whole idea.
Personally i would find it a little weird, calling a teacher sir and sitting in his classes and then the getting used to calling him by his first name etc etc. Mind you, there are absolutely no datable teachers at my school! Except possibly one, but he has a gf and loves himself waayyyy too much anyway!
