That totally depends on whether you like sharing a bathroom with other people of either sex. I've put down that i want en-suite as i'd like to have my own shower, etc. Some of the halls come in flats and some are corridor, but you don't get to choose between those. It's the people you are with that are going to determine your "hall life", not so much the bathrooms, etc.

Got to send my accommodation application off tomorrow.

i agree with you 100%, wich one do you think is best if you want to live in corridor style, en-suite or standard?

does the non- corridor have a common tv room or so? or do you just share the bathroom together?

Did you not receive the accommodation guide?

All en suite is in flats of 8, 5, or 4-8 depending on which halls, where you share a kitchen. I want to be in flats as it feels more right, don't know why. =P

In the standard halls they are mostly flats, either 7 bed with one kitchen, or 20 beds with 2, with shared bathroom. Surry house has a corridor layour, with common room facilties. If you want to live in a corridor, then standard you can get them. But there isn't much choice, you won't know until you get your accommodation offer.

i know what you mean with the flat. i live like that in Sweden and our hall is a corridor. i just don´t know what to pick. sure it´s relly nice to have your own bathroom but in a corridor you spend more time with folks (we have common rooms). its a hard pick i have to say.

With Goldsmiths being my first choice, I've done plenty of research into the transport links that it has with more central "familiar" London. Yes, New Cross really isn’t the greatest place in the world, but on my visits to the university everyone seems very positive and happy to be there, so I happily assume its fine.

Reading an early post to this topic made me wonder how someone could think the transport links are bad around the area!

The university is on the end of the East London tube line, with two stations near the main campus. New Cross and New Cross Gate stations are both on a train line from Waterloo East as well, and along with the multitude of night buses in the area, doesn't look like getting around should prove to be a problem.

Shame the rooms don't have broadband access though.

I did email them about the internet. They said some rooms will already have a provider from their past occupants, yet you have to pay the bills yourself. I will be doing that. But someone who is there at the moment, is in Loring Hall, i think it's B block, and they are getting the wireless network from somewhere, think it may be from the school next door. Hope i can get in there and get some free internet.

Transport is amazing. There are regular buses to Victori/Hyde Park/Oxford Circus. The tube as you said. And luckily for me a direct train and bus to where my dad lives in Honor Oak. =D

No kidding? I've got my wireless stuff with me now, you reckon we might have a chance with that? Haha. Would be perfect! Otherwise from that, you mean some people who used to live in the halls got broadband fitted?

I think that is what the accommodation office meant. They weren't very clear. It is on their website.

How many people on TSR are going to Goldsmiths?

If you pass through this thread and are going to Goldsmiths, then sign this post.

Well, as you prolly know, i´m going to Goldsmiths

I am at Goldsmiths now but finish this summer - have been doing an MA. The campus is very close to trains that take 5 minutes to London Bridge, East London Line that takes you into Shoreditch. Don't know what its like for UGs but highly recommended for PGs

Cool! Dass, what subject are you doing? Do you live in London?

Hi,
I’m going to study BSc Psychology. No I don’t live in London, but i will soon
I’m from Sweden´, and I’m living in Stockholm (the capital).
I have actually been in London three times before so I’m not completely new to the city. But I guess it’s a completely different thing being a tourist in London and actually living there.

What are you going too study?

Btw: I applied to an Intercollegiate Hall (international hall), I hope I get it.

Do you live in London?

Reply 32

I'm going, to read Psychology. Went up there a few weeks ago, nice university, dump of a town, but i knew that anyway.

Does anyone know when freshers week starts/when we an move into halls? Want to know when to come back from holidaying. =P

Reply 33

Yer, the town sucks, but it's easy to get out of? I'm not sure when freshers week is either? As discussed before, the time u move into your hall depends on your location.

Reply 34

Yeah, that’s true, I need to know when the freshers week and all that starts. I heard that south London looks like a dump but the college seems really good so I think it is worth it. And hopefully it’s a good atmosphere.

When do you think we will get all the information about the course and so on?
