Hi people! I didnt know there was a Goldsmiths thread! Im going too in Sept to study Education, culture and society! Pretty excited! Im just hoping I get into one of the halls but I live just outside of London so I bet I wont...

Reply 63

Hey everyone,
I'm also going to Goldsmiths this september.
I'm doing Sociology and Media, even though my first choice was Media and Communications (or whatever the exact name was). I didn't get that but instead an unconditional offer for S&M, not too bad I guess.
Anyway, originally I'm from Germany and went to school there but I have now moved to Richmond because my father has had a job transfer a year ago.
Might be tough to get accomodation at the University now though and even though Richmond isn't really that far away from New Cross it's taking ages to get there. I'll have to see how that's going to work out.
Anyone else doing Media and Sociology (think I've seen someone who said so in the signature?) and anyone else living in the south west of London etc?
Is here anyone who has experience with having to go 1-1,5 hours each way by tube/train/bus?

Fantastic, more people to Goldsmiths, we are slowly but surely growing

Have anybody received any information about their program?
How about accommodation? I got a place at International Hall.

Hey Rizzo, I'm also doing Media and Sociology!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

The great thing about Goldsmiths is the diversity of people. Theres only a few people posting on TSR who are going but they all seem to be from different countries and cultures. Thats damn cool if you ask me.

Reply 67

Yes, I suppose that's why Goldsmiths was voted 'coolest university', because it rocks!!!:biggrin:

Reply 68

In a time when allot of people are talking about less diversity, it feels good to hear future goldsmiths student talking about how good it is with diversity.
Let’s call it the Goldsmiths spirit.

It's awesome!

You received information on accommodation! That isn't fair, i haven't heard anything yet. =(

Thing is where I live there is no diversity whatsoever. I have to admit that every one of my friends is white and British. Thats not through choice, I just live in a place where there are no people from any other backround or part of the world. A big part of wanting to go to a London uni for me was to meet different types of people. It shall be cool.

Reply 72

Yeah, that is what has attracted me to London, the variety of people...it's exciting to be involved with and learn about different cultures etc.

Reply 73

Yeah, I'm getting waaaaaay excited now:wink:

Saree, it's cool that you are doing the same course. Anyone know how many people it is per course (I could prolly look it up myself, tho).
And this might sound stupid but what's the average schedule like each day? I don't really know enough about british universities, I have to admit because I graduated from a german school and I'm only into the german system, which is much less like a proper school than a british system, or so i've heard. Basically in Germany a lot is about independent study and you don't really have a fixed schedule.

Reply 74

Well I am transferring to Goldsmiths from City University, what a terrible year that has been!

I have no idea the amount of people on the course....or the average schedule! Lol! I'm a well of information aren't I!! Sorry, not very helpful!
Btw Rizzo, what are the grades requirements that you need to get to do this course at Goldsmiths?

Reply 76

um,... I got an unconditional offer, also now clue how my grades would translate to the english system, but I did pretty well in my final exams, maybe like AABish, but more Aish overall, if you include all the grades we got over the last 2 years which is what you do at german schools to get your overall result.

Can we have a nationality survery here? I think we`d win if it was a competition, Goldsmiths is cultural-diversity central.

Well, I’m Iranian but I was born and raised in Sweden, one of the reasons why I choose Goldsmiths was because a English friend of mine said it would be multi- cultural

I hope so! I really don't want to feel like a minority again like City made me feel, it was really unpleasent and could get lonely at times.
