Hey,

I can't answer your question exactly, but I've been on and off Dianette for the past few years and it does affect me quite badly when I stop taking it.

E.g. When I started taking it, it made me very ill, and I felt the same when I stopped taking it. The main reason I started taking it was to improve my skin, and literally within a few days of not taking the pill, my skin goes back to its horrible old self

BUT, the main thing I could say is that everyone is different - yes it's a cliche, but it is very, very true. Some of my friends have stopped/changed pills with absolutely no problems - the only way to find out how you will react is to try!

Having said that, with exams coming up I'd think carefully... if you can cope reasonably well with carrying on taking the pill, then I'd wait until your exams are over to stop it.

Either way, hope all goes well! x

Damn, I'd go an see my doctor at uni but I don't have time to before I have to start taking it again after my week's break. And I rather like my skin how it is at the moment, hmph. I just feel generally run-down when I'm on the Pill and I'd rather be a bit more like my old self when I've got a lot of work to do.

I didn't have any side effects when I stopped! I think you just go back to how you were before. So if your boobs have grown then they shrink again. Your periods might be weird for a while too.

You can always start again if you change your mind about stopping

Phone NHS Direct - it's a question that they'll probably be able to answer with ease, open 24hrs a day - 0845 4647

i was on microgynon for 5 years. i've come off it, and i look horrible. im oily, spotty, bloated. however, my periods are lighter than before i was on it for the first time.

as for changing pills, dont do it over the exams. different ones act very differently.when i started on the pill, Cilest didnt make any diffs to my periods, i didnt feel any different on it. Logynon made me feel so so sick and nauseous i could only lie down and sleep, loads of headaches, coulnd eat. Microgynon was excellent- i wasnt spotty or oily anymore, but i did put on 1 and 1/2 stone whilst on it which i lost coming off of it

everyones different on the pills but be aware they do react differently to each other. is there a reason u don like microgynon?

Sorry for yet another Pill question, but I'm curious!

I've been on Microgynon for 6 months now, and I'm thinking of taking a couple of months break while I have exams and to cut down on me feeling so hungry and moody all the time, and before I possibly start going on another brand in the summer. Are there any drawbacks to stopping like this? I'm hoping I won't experience the same side-effects as I did when I started!

I put yet more weight on when I went off microgynon (I put on weight when I was on it) but then after a month or so I lost the weight. I was more bloated had a bad stomach was moodier initially.
I don't think its wise making any big changes before the big exams.
viviki, i've only been off it a little while. did you lose the weight you'd put on while u were on microgynon as well as the weight you'd put on when u came off it? cos ive been off it for about a month/two and i am really bloated, how long will this take to go? im thinking to give up and start taking it again :frown:

Nope I lost the weight I put on when I came off after about a month then I lost about 3/4 a stone a few months later but that was dieting rather than natural weightloss.
If it doesn't agree with you don't give up and start taking it again I'd see the doctor and ask whether its best to go back on it stay off or see about another pill. I think Yasmine is meant to be the best one at the moment.
thanks for you help - i thought i was going to be bloated and blobby and oily forever!!no i lov microgynon, it makes me non-oily, non-spotty, less painful periods, very excellent drug. however i've been on it for nearly 6 yrs and im worried bout the risks of clots/blood pressure/breast cancer for taking it so long so im trying to stop.

Yeah I would be very careful being on any pill for too long. i had blood pressure problems with microgynon which is why i came off it.

I might come off Dianette soon, and [as I've mentioned!] I'm on it for my skin.. does anyone know if all my skin problems will come back again when I stop taking it?

I was on dianette but not really for skin but I had quite a few problems I've heard a few horror stories this for example there are about 14 pages bitching about dianette on this site

pleeeeessee can any of you help me!!

i hate the doc so i dont really wana go there.

on the pill i had really nice skin, and was a good weight (8 and half st), slightly chubbier than before the pill by 1 to 1.5 stones but i didnt mind.

now i've come off the pill after 5 yrs, im oily i mean GREASY, spotty (i had no spots for 5 yrs), bloated and feel sweaty all the time. i have been off the pill for 3months now.

should just risk the cancer/bp and go back on it?
