Under Age Sex - Big Deal?

On reflection with the whole "Pleasureland" and "Sex Under 16" programming that was on C4 last night, and the interesting responses posted on the forum, I just wondered one thing:

If you knew a person who was engaging in full sex with a minor, would you report it?

I will keep my comments to myself to begin with...I'm just interested to know as members of my sixth form were debating this in the common room today :smile:

i think 16 is too high. im 15 and loads of people my age arent virgins

Nope, Unless it was quite blatently Paedophilia, or just sum1 taking advantage but say in the case of 2 14yr olds y should u report that, its only nature after all.

i know what you mean. most of my mates are 2 years younger than me, and by the time they were 14, most of the people in their here had had sex.

I wouldn't report it-but I do know someone whose parents threatened to have her boyfriend arrested when she was 15 (he was 19 or 20).

I don't think it should be lowered though- i think that if a couple want to have sex, they will, regardless of it's legality.

first let me say sorry for what i'm about to say cos it's going to sound disscussting to some people.

you have been warned.

in my opinion, sex should be just for reproduction and to express love between to people. but if the age is loweered, more people (mostly lads) will do it just to say that they have done it.

i am still a virgin and i plan to stay that way until i meet the woman that i love.

I think 16's too low and making it any lower would be totally irresponsible. call me old fashioned but i still dont think that at 16 your mentally developed enough to make that kinda decision. you being 14, 15 or 16 may not think that and i wudnt blame you, but as u grow up, u start to regret it if u've done it or think differently about it. that's my opinion :smile:

Yup I agree - changing the legal age of consent will not affect the number of young people having sex.

Is it 16 cos you can physically give birth and carry a baby at that age?

(Obviously you can get pregnant before but it cause problems cos you not always fully developed)

I don't think that is disgusting at all...in fact its a good plan to me. That's what I did (waited until I found the person I'm in love with) and I don't regret it one single bit. I may have lost my virginity 2 years after my best friend did, but I am still with the boyf I first slept with and we waited until we were both ready before we went all the way.
I think you have guts to admit that you are waiting because a lot of guys are into the macho bull and like to brag about that kinda thing :smile:

The age of consent? An interesting phrase, when can one consent without being pushed? 7? 8? 12? 14? 16? 18? In my opinion there should be no age of consent just tight laws on the boundaries of force and paedophilia, unfortunately these boundries would be hard to define.

If you had a good friend and she told u that at the age of 14 she had sex with a guy who was 26 at the time and she was meeting him again today, three years on, would u report her and him?

im askin cos its happened to me and sometimes i feel like i shudda told someone and sometimes i feel like i shud jus keep shut cos she's old enough now and she's alright with the guy (even tho i think he's just usig her)
