Hi all,

I'm an international student, but I'm registered under NHS. Just wondering....if I want to do a medical checkup, how much will it cost? Do I have to pay or anything?

it should be free on the NHS.

Wow..thanks ...that was a fast reply!
Hmm...but the thing is....I have some forms for the doctor to fill in and sign...someone told me it'll probably costs me if I want the doctor to do so. Is it true?

in theory the NHS is free at the point of delivery, yes.

but if you wanted a full medical check up (in a hospital with fancy equipment etc), just to satisfy yourself you were healthy i.e. there's no current problem then i'm not sure it would be on the NHS - but there are plenty of private companies that offer these.

if you have a general health concern though - definitely make a GP appointment, which should be free.

with regards to charging for completing paperwork the patient brings in - i think it's at the discretion of the specific Doctor's surgery.. mine didn't when i had Occupational Health forms for signing, but they were within their rights to.. although i think it only would have been ~£10 or so.

hope this may help.

Thanks, Elles.

I'm applying for an education loan from my country, so I need the doctor here to certify that I'm of good health. No real concern about my health actually. I've never used the NHS here since I came to UK, so i'm a bit clueless....

Thanks for your info, Elles. I will make an appointment with my GP.
