Don't worry, I'm the same, none of my parents, grandparent etc have been to uni, lower class, on full student loan/bursary, went to the local state school etc etc, and tbh although there are a lot of people with a lot more money, and who have been to private schools etc, there are quite a few of us about as well! The thing is you don't tend to know how financially well off people are, unless they are obv showing they have money by having a wardrobe of nothing other than jack wills or whatever, or if they tell you. But yeh, a majority of well-off students (esp due to the high number of international who have to pay full fees etc), but we "poorer" students do exist!

wooo  Maybe we should start a "I hate Jack Wills" club.

hahaha, I like your thinking! ...don't know how well that would go down in general though hehe!

I'm from a lower class family, with none of my parents that went to Uni. Will I be in the minority? Jack Wills is taking over the world... AHHHH

Same, don't worry my town is classed as the poorest town in Britain so I wouldn't worry! :p:

I'm in for a hating Jack Wills club. Never even heard of it 'till I went to the open day. I'm quite possibly the scruffiest bloke you've ever met, although my taped up puffa jacket may come in useful in the Winter!

We could go streaking in protest, how about "I'd rather go naked than wear over-priced clothes purchased solely to display my inherited wealth and service my ego" as a slogan?

Berwick-upon-Tweed. My school was horrendous! When I've told my friends some of the things that went on there they thought I was joking - comprehensive at its worst! So don't worry, while there are a lot of people here who have been spoon fed all through school there are some, (albeit a minority), who are from really modest, hard-working backgrounds. What is it you'll be studying?

Ah I might take some maths modules, from what I've heard its completely different from A-level maths.

Depends what you take. MT1002 is essentially re-doing a lot of A-level and Advanced Higher material. The other 1000-level modules would probably offer more new stuff, I reckon.

If you do a module which is essentially A-level/IB all over again does that mean you can... not show up to lectures?

Pretty much.
They may take attendance at tutorials, and sometimes will insist you attend these. They can remove your Permission to Proceed if you don't go to compulsory things.
It's also worth being in touch with lectures for the sake of any continuous assessment, and for general module announcments.

Yeah not bad thanks, I've quite liked it.

Well, for MT1002 last semester I went to the first 4 lectures, then a few here and there (9am sucks). Got a 20 in the end so it was all good.

If you are doing maths I suggest you make the most of the joke modules in the first semester and have a good time, mind you it is only really slightly harder this semester.

Amazing how they're TSR people in my modules whom I've never spoken to. Stop me. I'm usually late. Coat, scarf, blazer, jumper, usually messy hair. Portly.
