what me?? Well I do play quite a few but I wouldn't go as far as to say every single one ever invented!

Lincoln: insular.

Why you say that? I agree that we're very much a 'cliquey' college and everything happens within college and everyone knows about everything the moment after its happened. I just think it's a good thing (the fact you'll always meet someone you know in the Quad...great distraction from work!) and insular sounds negative.

I think that's generally true of any colleges which are of medium size (say 200-600).

so does cliquey though. A "close community" is perhaps a more positive way to look at it. Cliquey implies that outsiders are made feel unwelcome and misplaced.

Definition: A small and exclusive party or set, a narrow coterie or circle: a term of reproach or contempt, applied generally to such as are considered to associate for unworthy or selfish ends, or to small and select bodies who arrogate supreme authority in matters of social status, literature, etc.

Good point...I'm a scientist so not good words (I just try and use them to sound impressive). Outsiders are certainly welcome, we're all just very close.

Medium size is 200-600? You what? Oxford doesn't have any full colleges significantly smaller than 200 or larger than 600 - you've used the entire range to describe "medium sized"! 200-300 small, 300-400 medium 400+ large in Oxford terms. Cambridge colleges are larger.

Anyway, while a number of smaller colleges are "cliquey", none have a reputation for it quite like Lincoln's. The only reputation Lincoln has externally is that "you never meet a Lincolnite".

i meant august more as an adjective, but it applies as a noun as well.

I'm not too keen on: Magdalen College, peacockish. I wouldn't have said we're particularly vain and shove how good our college is in peoples faces (although we do have a lot to be proud of  )
