What is the effect of repetition?

Could anyone please explain what effect repetition has on the audience of a persuasive piece of text?

For my English coursework I had to write a persuasive peice, and in the analysis of it my teacher has told me to write what the repetition of the word 'help' does. I dont know whether to link it to audience, theme, purpose, etc etc.

Any help would be good, thankss!

it helps to make a theme stand out, look for the implicit meaning of why the writer may have chosen to repeat those words...
