Erm, as far as I am aware they have been. But I'm sure they'll be up and running for the next year. I'm not entirely sure. If you contact GUSA (details on the site) then they should be able to tell you more about the situation.

Dunno if "suspended for rest of year" means until January 2010 or until the new university year in September.

Its pending a review as far as I know in july once Flav takes over. They've been causing merry hell for years now, so I think it'll depend who's still left from that team, as they all protest it was just the actions of one or two. I think it'll be running next year, but when I see any of the gusa board I'll ask them.

Don't all rugby teams? Alcohol and drunken antics from the rugby team are a staple of all universities. My friend is the captain of his uni team, he usually quite sensible...

And the drinking competitions just wouldn't be the same without the resident rugby player, who usually bows out early on.

Theres antics and then theres what they did. Im privvy to some information on some of the things that have led to this ban which aren't widely known about and certainly aren't going on an internet forum, but suffice to say, I think they deserve it, and some should never play for them again.

But yes, I agree with what you say, its all a bit of a joke, drunken banter is part of the GUU ethos, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But there's a line to cross and they crossed it- they've already had other bans in the past from various places, ranging from temporary to permanent- its been coming for a while. And, of course, it goes without saying it isn't the problem with them all, but if certain people keep acting up and the team doesn't learn, then a stand needs to be made, and I'm glad Shakes had the balls to do it.

Oh, I do agree. Rugby teams have always been a little bit close to the line all over the country. Hopefully this ban will teach them something and they might reign things back a bit.
And people say football is the hooligan sport.

"Rugby, they say, is a sport played by hooligans and watched by gentlemen. Football is a sport played by gentlemen and watched by hooligans."
