Cars and parking

Hey UWE goers and appliers, I have a quick question.

As you know, parking in the student village is frowned upon, and not allowed. For all those already there, and going in September what do you/or will you do with your cars and where you park them.

I know the obvious answer is to get the train. But for those with cars who'd rather drive the journey, what's the answer?

I'm curious for myself in September

Thanks

Do you mean how will we get our stuff into the Student Village when we arrive?
No, I mean parking up there during term time

EDIT: Just talked to someone and there are two car parks not too far away that we have the ability to park in. You just have to buy a token

uwe, advises all those living on frenchay campus not to bring their cars to university because there are limited spaces and they are for those who need to commute into the campus. I know many people who live in frenchay who have brought their cars, the only way to do this is to ensure that you adhere to the parking regulations, every day you need to have a new parking token displayed in your car, if anyone notices that you are doing this though you could be fined or clamped
some people choose to park in the car park of the nearby b and q sainsburys or retail park, there is no fee forthis, but they have parking restrictions aslo and you could be clamped for leaving your car there
I talked to someone on the phone and they told me that as long as I buy a token, and park in the car park (not on the F campus, but pretty near by) then I should be good. If you buy a years worth for about £70 something, it's discounted price.

Gonna do that.

I dont actually live at Frenchay but I know most people just park in either car park one on the west side of the campus or car park 20 the other side of the roundabout outside of campus

theres a small housing estate where some of those living on frenchay park, obviously those that live in the estate aren't keen about it and it does have risks of being reported.

end of the day, it isnt really worth the hassle

yeah as i say use the car parks there are plenty of spaces avaliable

It is a breach of your accomodation contract to have a car on campus without prior authorisation. People have been given the choice, move to other move suitable accomodation to have your vehicle, or loose the car for the first year. Tbh, if your living on frenchay and studying here, there is honestly no need for a car. People said it to me, and i thought they were wrong. Turns out that it is manageable as it is quicker to walk to sainsburys.

It's not a breach though if you're in another campus, right? That's what the guy on the phone said to me  I only want a car to travel to Bristol. A lot of my friends will be going to Uni's around the country and while I will get trains, it'll get pretty expensive. I'd rather travel to Uni in my own car in my own time

Other campuses should be fine. I live on Glenside Campus and I own a car though I only really use it if I need to get into the centre since we have to pay for the bus.

Oops, I meant parking somewhere else  All my accomodation choices are in Frenchay.

If you live in the student village, it is against the terms of your accomodation contract to have a vehcile kept on the campus. This was one of the rules set out in the original planning consent from the council that residents could NOT have vehicles stored on campus. UWE have other accomodation where you can park quite happily, just not at Frenchay.
But you can use other car parks nearby, right?

well the only actual car parks nearby (that i know of) are the sainsburies and b&q, although it isnt rare to see windscreens smashed in whilst walking through

^^ this is correct. B&Q is quite a dingy car park, and not always the nicest of people are found "hanging out" there. Some students have also parked on the Stoke Park estate, next to the campus. This has caused severe problems not only for residents, but also the emergency services in being able to access parts due to cars parked inappropriatley, and too many cars for the road.

Do you really need a car for the first year?

I'm renting mine out to my sister = )
yeh your right about the token thing but these dont allow you to park overnight and you WILL get clamped, i know so many people this year who have and its £40 to remove the clamp. One of my friends was on the final warning and was running the risk of getting chucked out of accomodation.
