Just take your time but get up to the speed limit when it's clear and safe to do so, people have this perception that since it's a driving test it's better to get it over with and done quickly - this usually results in you rushing, and failing. Take your time during manoeuvres and take extra caution with speed approaching junctions etc. Also, a downward hill starts is always impressive too (or my instructor says )

Make sure to emphasize your blind spot/shoulder checks during manoeuvres too!
you dont have to be a perfect driver, just a safe one. so just don't do anything stupid and you'll be fine. on manoeuvres take your time but dont take too much time, you must be confident. they arnt really fussy on stuff like mirrors just make sure you do it everynow and then Just try to do everything by the book, and have a good solid read of the highway code beforehand:wink:

and always indicate when its necessary, you don't wanna fail on a little thing like that. lol.
good luck.

any way i can become more confident, or know if i am good enough to pass? Get your instructor to do a mock test. Ask yourself how often it is that you are making major/dangerous 'faults'. I wouldn't bother about minor ones, it's unlikely you're going to get 16 or more and fail on that.

any tips for my exam? Drive confidently and safely. If you're not sure, don't go - you get minors for hesitation and majors for pulling out in front of someone - same principal applies if you do not know the speed limit on a certain road. Drive safely and you will pass..if you show you can drive confidently, competently and safely, he/she might even let you off if you make a slight mistake on a manoeuvre etc.

any examiner tips? Well be polite, apparently you should hold the door open (as in, let them go through first) for them, even if it is a woman as traditionally it is a sign of bribery - my instructor told me this as my female examiner came in the room to get me, I couldn't tell if he was having me on, so I sort of held it open for her and she just stepped back lol. Erm..make it obvious that you are checking your mirrors every 4ish seconds and make observations particularly obvious before you brake, signal and while attempting a manoeuvre.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Same here, I'm really scared lol, I keep thinking I'm gonna do something really bad
Good luck! I have mine a week tomorrow! Sooo nervous - I really don't think I'm going to pass.

I haven't passed so I can't really help but I did a mock test last week and my instructor said it's fine to stall during the test, just make sure you deal with it appropriately. For example, I was reversing round a corner up hill and I stalled but I dealt with it OK and she said it was good because most people start to panic and think they've fail so kinda give up! If you do stall during a manoeuvre then make sure you look around and make sure it's safe to start moving again (apparently lots of people forget to do this).

Remember when you're doing your reversing exercises, don't just "look", make sure you actually see any hazards. In particular when you're going to do something that will cause your car to be more of a hazard to other road users. On my test I "looked" but failed to see a car coming from behind me. I redid the observation almost instantly and spotted it. I still got a driver fault for observations.

Also, after your emergency stop (if you get it) remember to check all mirrors and left shoulder blind-spot then right shoulder, as the left shoulder observation won't change much before you move off as it is likely to be slower traffic (bikes etc) while the right can change quickly.

When the examiner gives an instruction, check your mirrors. He should watch you a few seconds before an instruction is given but to be sure mirror when told what to do.

Relax, bad things can happen on test, but they're not going to happen to you!

check mirrors almost all the time. if you're not sure, just check the mirrors anyway.

when stopping, remember to check mirrors and then signal, especially if there's a car behind you.

thanks for the tips!!

any more?

I would definitely agree with the mirror checking, for the love of god don't panic and forget mirror checks like I did! My tip though is against what some people believe-don't talk to the examiner unless spoken to or you don't understand something. I can speak and drive easily, but it just helped on the test to have a bit of silence. When i get nervous, I do talk quickly and often though hehe

get your tits out....oh wait

take your time, stick to speed limits, dont rush your monouevers (sp?) and make sure u always check blind spots when moving off when being asked to stop

other than that just relax and dnt think tooo much it'l be over before you know it!! x
Well, just failed mine...I failed in the last five minutes! >:<

my one piece of advice is not to move out from behind a lorry when there's not enough space between you and the car behind :frown: ALWAYS wait...better to get a driver fault for hesitation than a serious fault for rushing things

apart from that, take things slowly, its much easier to approach a situation you are unsure of at 20mph than at 30mph

lol this. I failed my first test for rushing at a junction. I passed my third with one hesitation at a junction.
My mum got me insured on her MPV and I drove it ALL DAY before the day of my test. This was especially good as I had a worry about space between cars on the road so that massive car sorted that one out. It really made me confident about my driving ability.

Just go do it and relax. I had a mock test week before my test and got 16 minors but in my actual test got 4 minors.

lol I failed mine on the last roundabout pulling into the test centre, dam I was angry for about a week

just remember to take your time planning what you are going to do and which lanes and signals

This was my second test, and both times I was really nervous before the test, but managed to keep the nerves under control during the test; I found I was concentrating too hard on the driving to be nervous!

Hopefully your nerves won't get in the way
