Yep its harder if your not local, unless you get a close group of friends quick who live in halls so you can crash there

I'd be commuting from St.Helens, and I was just wondering if people found it difficult...

Nope it's not, I don't know why the other person said that.
Making friends anywhere is just as hard/easy (whichever way you want to look at it) just be sure to mingle with your course mates and join some socs because you won't have housemates to bond with - you'll be fine. Lots of people commute :yep:

You can't go out and do last minute spur of the moment things. Like it is a lot of the time. So yeah, you will miss out abit in that respect. But again, you're sure to still meet a fair few amount of people and what not. Obviously you wont get the opportunity to meet people through halls, but if you put some effort into socities and getting to know people on your course you'll be fine : )

I have friends who live at home and commute to Uni and they made friends like the rest of us! The only suggestion I'd make is to make sure you join the societies and go to halls with your course mates when invited and mingle with everyone.
As someone said, it doesn't really make a difference, everyone's in the same boat and as long as you make an effort, the fact you live at home shouldn't matter. One of my closest friends, who is now friends with all my friends too, lives at home... she said when she visited halls that she wished she'd moved out but was comforted as she was still part of the friendship group!
You'll be fine, don't worry!!
P.S. There'll no doubt be other people living at home so you have common ground with people anyway!

No, I was only ever going to commute if I went to Liverpool. Eventually decided on Manchester and living in the halls!

you could always add a few people on facebook/msn so you know some before you go.
