Min age is 18 these days, since they put the smoking age up

I am not sure if they actually ID you though

Reply 2

Yeah, it's 18 but I've never been asked for ID for one.

Reply 3

Seriously!?!? I don't even smoke.. I just want one for camping! I thought the age limit would be 16 :frown: Is it the same for matches aswell then?

:wavey:

I think it is for matches too, anything that could be related to smoking, solvents and alcohol is limited to 18 years+ (apart from liquour choccys, which is 16 for some reason lol)

i would suggest you buy one from you local newsagent as they're much less likely to ID you, places like Tesco ID for everything.

It'd probably take the 2 years to eat enough of them to get drunk.. :p:

And people always say if those 2 years I spent were a waste, but I have to say, it was totally worth it. :awesome:

haha yeah, I have a mental image of a 16 year old stuffing their face full now trying to get drunk :')

I got IDed buying a pack of skins, I was only buying them to get change for the bus!

I'd definitely say go to a local newsagents rather than a supermarket. I work at a supermarket, and they check I'm ID'ing people for such items every so often, if we fail we get retrained and if we fail again we get fired. So I think alot of supermarkets will ID to cover their own back

Holy crap this was nearly 9 years ago

Reply 13

Oh shoot so it was...I wonder if it's changed lol

Its 16 to buy lighters but 18 to buy lighter fluid

Reply 16

I tried buying a lighter today for when I do fieldcraft in ACF (Army Cadets) and it was a small newsagent and the guy asked to see some ID (needed to be 18) and I was confused because I never thought there would be an age limit on what age to buy a lighter, but it does make sense (to reduce smoking and arsen with minors). I didn’t have any ID except a bus card, but that doesn’t have my birthday on and I’m not 18 yet anyway

Reply 17

I don’t know about England, but in Scotland the minimum age to buy a lighter is 16, and I know this because I bought one today and they did ID me (I’m 17). It might be different for other places this
