Building up a tolerance to alcohol

I know I post too much about drink but anyway...

I was thinking last night, I drank so much, and only got very slightly tipsy. I must have had about 25units (mostly in shot form), and by 1am I was pretty much stone cold sober. I woke up this morning feeling fine, depite the fact I drank loads and have only had 2 hours sleep.

I used to be able to get drunk on a couple of bottles of WKD, back in the day! Do you build up a tolerance to alcohol over time, or am I just weird? :p:

25 units is horrendous >.<

I know! It's not doing my bank account any favours either! :frown:

abstain for a couple of weeks, then your tolerance will be a little lower next time you drink..

25 and you were sober?
Well however you feel it's not good for you and as you say it's not good on the bank account either! :p:

You'd drink some of my mates under the table though!

Am I to infer that you actually want to get drunk? There are cheaper ways of making yourself incoherent, sick and dizzy. Get a friend to cosh you, for example.

Of course I want to get drunk! I'm not talking about being really out-of-control drunk, but it's be nice if I could keep the general level of merriment up throughout the night. I was always under the impression that 25 shots was quite a lot of alcohol, and the fact that I was stone cold sober by the end of the night confuzzles me somewhat!

ive never seen the attraction of alcohol, its expensive and does nothing to me. Im going to try some weed tonight, for the first time hehe. I find it utterly pointless to get completely tanked, feeling sick isn't good, prefer to feel a bit spaced out but not sick, and i can't manage being hammered yet feeling unsick at the same time when drinking - hopefully the weed will produce results.

Fingers crossed that you don't go completely schizoid and start murdering people!
Doesn't usually happen straight away, but you never know...

yeh but heres thew thing. if like me you go for a period where you are so busy you can't go out and get wasted for months at a time, that tolerance fades away to nothing.
I can get peed up on 4 pints/bottle of wine now where at cambridge it was much much more.

25 shots?! Were they full 40% shots or the only 20% apple sourz/screamers kind....?

25 shots omg I would have been a mess. You should give up alcohol for a little while, and when you next drink after that you'll get drunk much more quickly. It's good to be a lightweight...much cheaper!

i can't get drunk anymore :frown: and when i really try hard at it by downling large amounts of various spirits in a short space if time, i just get a little tipsy and it wears off after half an hour- i miss making a fool of myself!!! :frown:

If you carry on like this, your liver will stop functioning before your brain/heart does. Just my two cents.

I can take about 10 units, I can drink much more without getting drunk, a month back I drank probably about 15 units, I felt very ill by 1:30 so I had to go home early. I must have been drunk becuase me and my mate who singing a song called Bizzare Love Triangle and there was this tramp like person the bus that said to us is that New Order! Quite a bizzare moment.

I also got quite a big snog that night so I must have been really drunk.

The next day I was sick about 20 times I have never felt so ill.

I can handle more drink now than I used to, but I think how much drink you can take it largely due to genetics. I have a brake that usualy stops me from getting drunk.

Also the body mass is an important factor, fatter people seem to be able to take drink much more, probably becuase the body can store more of it or somthing without having to reject it.

I have a fat mate who can drink 10 pints and still get into clubs no problem - i.e not appearing drunk.

Yep 25 units is far far too much, it must be nearly 10 times the daily allowance.

Some people's liver will be able to take it, others won't the problem is you often don't find out until you're rushed to hospital with liver failure.
