The Pill - weird blue or purple spots on legs?

Has anyone found that after starting to take the Pill (Microgynon 30 for me), you get weird blue or purple patches on your legs?

Weirdly, they situate near my vein areas, and I can't tell whether I've knocked my legs and they're now the host of a bruise convention, or if it's a consequence of the Pill. They're honestly not very nice on a superficial value - I've only just started to wear skirts and I don't particularly want to be covered in blue patches.

They don't feel any different to the rest of my legs at all.

How big are the patches? Or is it just a few blue/purple thread veins? Also, where are they on your legs?

On my right and left: mainly on the lower part of my leg.

My right is more patchy than the left however. They're only about a centimetre in diametre, not even that. Hang on (analysing my legs here! I'm twisting in ways I've never twisted before :biggrin:

)...

They frequent near the bone down my leg (at the front) on both lowerlegs. If that helps. I'm not a leg-terminology specialist :smile:

If there's quite a lot of them, I'd be tempted to ring the doctors tomorrow morning and ask the receptionist if there's any chance you can pop in and see a doctor or a nurse.

I was a bit worried recently cause I'd got a few tiny thread veins on one of my thighs (not very nice I know) ... I knew they weren't inflammed cause they weren't itchy or raised ... but I was still worried ... so I popped down to see the pharmacist and she told me they were fine and could be cause by a number of things, not necessarily my pill but just to mention it if I was still worried when I went for my check up ... she did say however if they started turning into patches and covering more of my leg then I should go see the doctor/nurse about it.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye out for any unusual affects since taking it, and Mum said that if it continues, go to the doctor. It's supposed to be a trial run so I keep thinking "well, maybe this is supposed to happen"...

I'm no doctor, but I reckon you should get that checked out, the pill can cause blood clots, and blue/purple spots doesn't sound to healthy

Yeah, I was paranoid I was gonna get blood clots when I first started taking it *LoL*

You could always pop into a pharmacy before going to the doctors, the pharmacist I spoke to was really nice and gave me lots of advice. They'll probably be able to tell if it's serious or not.

hey girl, listen arefuly.dono if im right, but the pill can affect ur blood pressures and cause clots in the body.
i think u should go see the doc now if u know this is caused by the pill. read the instuction leaflet causrfully for unexplained bruising etc see if its listed.

Don't let all this talk of blood clots scare you. You're not getting any strange pains in your legs are you? It sounds like the problem is just with superficial veins ... the veins that are associated with the clotting are deep veins that you wouldn't be able to see ... hence it being called deep vein thrombosis.

It can do yes I put nearly 2 stone on when i was on microgynon.

And to the thread starter I would ring NHS direct today.

it increases youe appetite, which can make you gain weight. i find that i'm hungry pretty much all the time! lol but its ok if u eat healthily... eg snack on fruit not chocolate.

and yes, hannah, go get it checked out. it may not be pill related (did it start when you satrted taking it?) but go just to set your mind at rest!

I noticed about a week after I started taking it. So not that long ago. I haven't time to go to the doctors tomorrow but I can try and see if I can get an appointment for Tuesday morning.

or it cood be an allergic reaction? im on the pill and it makes me erratic lol dont panic abwt blood clotting cuz u never no. you might have sticky blood.. the cure for that is vodka! lol
