I've been thinking about Tocil, Rootes, Whitefields and (possibly) Claycroft.

I know Rootes is like the main one, but I hear it can get really loud (cos of the union being right behind it) so I'm too sure about Rootes.

Edit: I didn't see the second page XD would you recommend Rootes first to everyone?

yeahs, tbh whitefields is going to be closer to the union than rootes and loudness isn't much of an issue anyways. you think you'll be working hard all throughout the year now but you honestly won't there's just so many funner things to be doing with your time. i would recomment rootes first to everyone, cryfields is a bit out of the way really.

But if money is a large factor and since there is a 1000pound difference between rootes and cryfields, is cryfields that much of a difference(as in atmosphere/distance etc) compared to rootes?

it won't matter that much, it's just better is all.

you should quote me if you want a quicker response.

i'll see what i can do.

It's a bit too late for me coz I've already applied, but what should I have written in my about me section to get Tocil!?!? Is it quiet/ loud? I thought it was somewhere in the middle so thats what I put- like to be sociable but not to the extent that I disturb others' quiet times; like to go out but rarely through the night; on nights when there are no social activities that catch my eye I'll go to bed early, etc. And I put I play clarinet and like to listen to my music, but again would make an effort not to disturb others and would hope they wouldn't disturb me, because you're making me fork out for my degree so I'm not coming out with anything other than a first!

Does that make me sound too resigned for Tocil!?
I am a 3rd year student.
Tocil was my first choice when I was a fresher and I got it. Same reasons as you, I wanted to be near the gym, the academic buildings and also not right on top of the loud union.
I actually preferred the flats to halls. It's a nicer layout. I had a friend in Rootes, which is the most popular 'party' halls (corridors)...and I didn't really like it. Also, in Tocil, the bathrooms aren't too bad. There are normally 3 bathrooms and cleaners clean the communal areas, so it stays decent.
In Tocil's bigger flats, there are 6 guys and 6 girls in a flat, each on a seperate corridor, the flat is in a sort of L shape...boys down one side, girls down the other and theres a good sized kitchen in the middle, which is also used as a communal area.

Tocil is also on the side of campus that is closer to Tesco- means you have less distance to carry heavy shopping bags back, than if you were in rootes for example.

If you still need convincing.... I liked Tocil so much that I applied again for my final year (next year), but I ended up getting my 2nd choice instead (Hurst).

I'm just happy to be going back on campus though to be honest- wherever you end up staying, you'll have a great time! Freshers is amazing.
ps- DON'T WORRY ABOUT MAKING FRIENDS.

Everyone who starts at Uni is in exactly the same position and it is REALLY easy to make friends- in fact, you'll meet so many new people in the first few weeks that you will end up with people's numbers in your mobile, who you don't even remember!!!
