Lancaster - career prospects?

I got an offer from Lancaster to do Economics (AB, which I feel I can get very easily). I did like the place, was a bit iffy about the social aspects of it all but after reading many a review it's all good.

So of course Career prospects. After reading many other reviews, Lancaster has rather a low percentage of graduates in jobs. Even though Lancaster is between York and Bath in many league tables, companies still prefer applicants from York and Bath?

Basically my idea is if I get the 3 As I'm aiming for this year, I'm going to take a gap year and re-apply. But if not, what is Lancaster really like? Basically, some more info. I'm also really interested in the year in industry, has this helped anyone in their future career?

Even if I do go to Lancaster, I'm planning on doing a masters degree down in London, at (hopefully) a more prestigous uni. Would this be better into a job after university, even after Lancaster?
Should the fact that noone's answering, answer my question?

I'm at the management school atm doing marketing management. I know some people who do economics and the reputation is very good for graduate jobs. The other areas of the university drag the reputation down because generally the arts graduates which takes up a large part of the university will struggle to get graduate jobs. Although if your going to get three A's and you really want to do economics I would suggest going for a more prestigious university for that subject.

The graduate employment statistics for Lancs are not good compared to others, especially (as krisss says) for Arts subjects.
This is partly due to the fact that people have never heard of Lancaster, and also because people like to stay in the area after they graduate, and job prospects are not fantastic in the north west.
The management school is a bit different, it has a good reputation, and if you are prepared to go anywhere in the country or the world when you leave, you should have as good a chance as any other graduate.
And incidentally no, it is not full of "Northern Chavs".
And finally, you are not getting many replies because we are all working hard at the moment, with deadlines and exams looming large, and not wasting time on TSR!

The careers service is very good but not many use it .... It does not have northern chavs neither does anyone care where you've come from.

Come up and find out what lancaster is like ...and see why people love the place. A year in industry would help career prospects and would help to get a masters in london.

Hey I chose it over Nottingham, Loughborough and Manchester.
After all the career prospects are up to you and your 2:1 supposedly, not what others get there.
Although, the "iffy about the social aspects " prove that lots of Northern chavs do go there- where else would they go)

Ti iz Rossii?!

I understand that. But I'm worried that people are not counting Lancaster as good as a university as it actually is. Even though it's quite high up in the league tables, I just don't think many people have heard of it. Although i hear it is improving and more prospective employers are taking it into consideration.

Well no, the social aspects being the town itself and how it's not really a city. Didn't think about the chavs. People keep mentioning this, it can't be that bad can it?

Da, maya mama iz rossii. Zdelala russkii a level

Thanks for the reply  Really helpful. I think that too, it's just many people have not heard of Lancaster. But i think it is becoming more known which is all good. Ahh yes. Sorry! Very good point

That's what I thought about the whole northern chav thing. It's not a big issue to me. But that is good to hear. I have been to Lancaster, however I did go up in the Easter so there weren't any students about but I did like it. To be perfectly honest, the campus wasn't as nice as other I'd seen (like warwick) but that doesn't matter much.

Thanks for the replies XD

Oh, you mean chavs in the city, not at the uni? Sorry, I misunderstood.
Well, there do seem to be quite a lot of chavs hanging about in the city centre. But I suspect that this is because Lancaster is so small, they are concentrated in a small area instead of being spread around loads of suburbs and estates. And I don't know of anyone who has had any trouble with them - they are mostly just very bored and harmless I think.
