I go to Somerville and I love it. I'd highly recommend it, although it's not the poshest college it's laid back and fun. The people are really friendly and we have a quad that we're allowed to walk on and sit on (which is really appreciated now it's Trinity and sunny!). If you want to know anything specific, just let me know and I'll answer any questions you have
Those 4 colleges you've singled out have quite different characters, so you shouldn't have too much trouble in choosing between them. These are inaccurate stereotypes, but it generally said:
Somerville - Prides itself on being relaxed and friendly. Fairly active university wide. BNC - Sports-prominent. Considered right-wing politically. Reputation as a "Rah" college Wadham - Politically active. Left-wing. Keeble - Fairly low-profile. Generally unremarkable and hard to pin down.
Thanks, thats exactly the kind of straight forward advice i hoped for! You say BNC is sporty, are there any other particularly sporty colleges, i play lots of sport esp. tennis!

I think St. John's is generally thought of as the sporty college. But I think that just means that its thought to take the main team sports the most seriously. Not really sure about others.
But there probably aren't many with their own tennis courts, so you might want to look into that.

I'm not sure this was seriously written, but then again it didn't come with emoticons.
St John's is an academic college, not that sporty at all, and often can only produce teams in major sports by joining with some of the other colleges (e.g st anne's)
In my experience, the colleges I know (hardly all of them) have had their own tennis courts.

It was intended to be serious. So here's an appropriate emoticon.
My view of St. John's may be skewed by the fact that whenever we played them they took the game a little bit too seriously. And they never had any trouble fielding a full team - it was us who always had to join forces with another college to make up the numbers.
Which colleges have tennis courts, then? I only know of one (my own - and we're particularly proud of it, despite the fact that it's lumpy)

Well their Christchurch Regatta 1st boat wasn't very good
And as for tennis courts, we have hard courts we can use all year plus grass courts for trinity term, though I've never made it to them. I have played squash a few times, and have my tennis racket with me so we'll see if I make it!

St Johns were a low second division football side this year - and in rugby they join with st annes in order to field a team. I don't know what their other sports are like but they're certainly not THE sporting college, though they may have other sporting strengths.
Worcester, Queen's, Jesus, Balliol, Keble, Lincoln all have tennis courts (that I know of) and I imagine there are plenty of others.

How did SJC1 do? Though you're talking to someone who doesn't really consider rowing to be a sport, or at least not an interesting one, so I'm not really sure why I'm asking.

They lost in the final by a couple of lengths to a much better magdalen boat (I don't row any more so you can slag it off all you like! It was good fun though, and I expect chloé will have something to say about it being a proper sport!)
