The best kind of lightbulbs are energy saving ones - they are environmentally friendly, last for AGES and give off a softer light!

But they are also flourennt(sP) so thereofre flicker more than normal bulbs do (50hz), I those energy saving bulbs flicker more, which is bad for the eyes.

Also if they are better for the envoronment or not is a matter of a large debate.

You're brain can't process it, its like CRT monitors, but the flicker does cause more strain on your eyes.

What kind of monitor are you using? When I had CRT I used to get loads of head aches, when I changed to a flickerless TFT I never get any head aches now.

Er, I haven't got a clue! I'm not very good on technology! If you described the monitors then I could possibly tell you!

Yeah, it means you shouldn't get any headaches!! Though I find I get headaches more often when I use TFT's rather than CRT's because of the reflections they produce.

I've seen my energy lightbulbs flicker before, it does get annoying. Just stay away from fluorescent bulbs!

Yep its the starter that charges some gas and you really notice it if you look carefully. The other thing and this is a debate for the physics people on here is that are they any better for the evronment? I.e is the wastefull energy it takes to manufacturer them compared to a normal bulb less than the wastfull energy of a normal bulb?

The most efficient type of bulbs I think are halogen types especialy with the reflectors, they last for ages, are simple to make and are efficient.

Yep, I've got a halogen lamp - it's about the only thing I own at uni that hasn't broken :p:

Don't revise with those fluorescent tube lights. I've been revising in a room that has them and it kind of hurts my eyes.
