At a guess, probably either because it'll help keep you awake or because it's fairly high in calories, so you can try to maintain weight if you're not able to eat much/at all.

Reply 2

thats what it is/was designed for, gives you energy etc.

Reply 3

But surely there's more suitable liquids you could have whilst ill.

Reply 4

Think it's meant to rehydrate mate, so if you have say diarrhoea which dehydrates you, Lucozade is your best bet to rehydrate quicker.

Reply 5

Sickness can cause dehydration. Drinks such as lucozade help to replace electrolytes and keep you hydrated

lucosade has a warning on it telling you that its not designed to replace fluids lost through diarrhoea.

either way, it tastes nice and makes you feel better.

Glucose plus isotonic, to replace the salts lost in diarrhoea and stuff. Plus it tastes nice so its usually just an excuse to drink lots of it.

Reply 8

i think cause it gives you energy?

dunno.

I mean the isotonic Lucozade ones for diarrhoea.

I'm usually given Lucozade because if I'm ill, I don't really want any food, so I'm given Lucozade for the calories in it, and the sugar in it, and it gives you energy, which helps a little if you feel weak.

Reply 13

Yeah a couple of people have said it, its an isotonic solution, so it'll replace salts and other electrolytes to roughly the same concentration that should exist in a normal body, therefore making you feel a bit better.

Then theres the added bonus of the energy boost it gives you because of all the calories, which will make you feel better if you're ill anyway.

Lucozade's pure sugar so you only feel you can get away with drinking it when you're ill - it takes the guilt away!

It keeps your energy up when you're not taking in much food, plus it helps to rehydrate you and replace lost salts.

My sister gave birth a week ago. She was munching on those lucozade tablets and the midwife was encouraging her to so they must do something.

Reply 16

Lucozade? I drink Powerthirst!

:awesome:

Reply 17

I had the lucozde tablets when I was ill- i dunno if they helped but they tasted disgusting and then when I had them when I was beter, they were delish!

Reply 18

original lucozade is hypertonic! hit's packed full of short carbs i.e. sugar to give 'energy' it's yet another fluid hangover from the deep dark past

Reply 19

Eww, I don't know why people drink Lucozade when ill either.. I hate it when I'm healthy so when I'm already sick I don't think it would be a good mix. :P
