The Student Room Group

Glasshouse/Trinity Square

Can someone please tell me what these places are like? Is it mainly first-years? Does the uni still involve these people in student activities? Are the people there sociable? Are the living standards any good?

Please help, i've just spent the last 24 hours desperately trying to get a place in halls and the system has screwed me up, so i'm now having to go private!

I know one person whos in his first year staying there this year because NTU was his insurance choice uni so he didnt get in to halls! I think he is mixed with 2nd and 3rd years as well as 1st years! He seems to be enjoying it, though I havent spoke to him that much about it lol! I know the rooms are a decent size, internet and bills etc are included! Its located in the city centre near to the city campus and all the shops, bars etc! Dont really know anything more, and I havent seen the inside of the building, just from the outside! I would check out the website (search it on google)!
All I know about Glasshouse is that its located behind Victoria shopping centre, slighty cheaper I think and a fresher I met at the open day was staying there and recommended it if I was to go private! But check out the website again! I think price includes bills and internet etc!

I know someone who lives trinity square (shakespeare house) and a stayed there loads of times. The rooms are huge and the flats even got a big lcd TV in the living room. To be honest trinity is even better then gill street. I'll be living there in my second year, gonna live sandby cuz i want to have the full student experience.

Thanks guys sounds good, but i'm still worried i'll be missing out on some of the social aspect of freshers year ie. will people living there be invited to join in freshers week activities?

You'll get reps knocking on your door and inviting you to events. But on the other hand you get a lot of people who are not freshers or not at trent which makes it harder to get to know new people. That's the main reason i decided to live in a hall in my first year.

There's always Goldsmith Court as well. Right across the street from City campus.

Private halls are good - they take into consideration your year at uni, course etc and try their best to group similar people together. Be prepared to make a bit more of an effort when it comes to meeting NTU students. But you'll still hear about all the events an such like. It's really not a lot different to Uni halls.

booked into Trinity today. Seems good.
To be honest i can't imagine it will be difficult to meet people, seeing as you're only a few minutes away from the other halls and the uni.

And sometimes it might be nice to get away from people anyway, if it does turn out that its not as lively.

It seems like you're getting a lot more for your money with the private halls. Glasshouse seemed cool but i think it was a bit further away?

Did you just apply today or actually book your room? I applied this morning, i'm really hoping this place isn't full as well or else i'm giving up all hope of enjoying uni!

Im booking in today, from this thread alone it looks like there will be plenty of first years, and even if reps didn't come to Trinity we're right in the middle of town anyway, looks quality!
Hey!

I stayed in Maltings my first year and am going into Glasshouse for my second year. It's really close to the Uni, about 3 minutes walk from the Student Union, 1 minute from the Victoria Shopping Centre and is cheaper than the majority of halls as well as being much better quality!

They put first years together so you won't have any problem meeting people, and you make friends across uni regardless. Very few of my friends are in my halls.

I've been in glasshouse and trinity. I had friends living in glasshouse in the first year and friends living in trinity in the second year. Both are good if you like living in halls, but yeah I read an earlier message saying glasshouse is behind trinity, it is. Supermarkets, takeaways are all near by and kind if you like going out. Trinity is near good, I prefer trinity tbh. The gym is basically underneath it lol all the shops you need are around it too
