Where do you buy your work clothes?

I tried searching but not much came up (plus it hurt my eyes to keep looking as i'm wearing dodgy contacts) :p:

I want to buy some clothes for an office job, but haven't got the slightest idea where to go. I want to find a suit that actually fits properly, without breaking the bank! (If anyone has an in date voucher for the tm lewin student offer??) I've looked in New Look, etc, but can't seem to find anything that fits well, and then even if i find single pieces, i'm useless at making them all go together. Help me please!! :o:

M&s?
Next has some decent stuff, and on the website they show you how to put outfits together in the workwear section. I bought a lovely pencil skirt from there for an interview over Easter and teamed it with a simple white shirt and big waist belt - easy to find in most shops from Warehouse to M&S. If you're feeling a bit flush, I'd also recommend Reiss. When I land my first decent job I swear my entire working wardrobe is going to come from there!
We get given tops, but for bottoms i've just got plain back trousers and cropped trousers from Tesco. I didn't want to spend too much as i realy don't care and it's only a weekend job. I have seen some pretty nice shirts and pencil skirts etc there so maybe it's worth a look. For smart work clothes i always think of M&S, Zara, even Topshop sometimes have some nice tailored stuff.

next? dont go to new look for a suit! they are cheap and feel cheap. I have had a suit from H&M once and it was ok ish the best place I have found has been either next of M and S, what kind of interview? do you have to wear a suit or dress smart?
Next/RI one of them to be honest.
Also, if you're struggling to match items, why not go for shift dresses? There are loads around at the moment in most highstreet shops.
Next for suits.
New Look for some trousers.
H&M for some more summery work tops.
Primark for plain work shirts.

Oooh good idea! Thanks

I never even thought of Next, will have a look on the site and pop into town this afternoon. I haven't got the job yet, but its just office work - though i don't want to look the same every day, or stick to black. Thanks for all the ideas.

When I worked in an office it was REALLY casual, jeans, shorts, tshirts that sort of thing, don't spend too much until you're sure of the dress code, even if they say it's smart casual, it might not be in reality.

I've always dressed smarter then the job i do; just the advice i've always gone for.

OP if you buy say a suit with jacket, skirt and trousers you then can wear the items seperately too. If you have any plain t-shirt type tops you can wear them under the jacket in leui of a shirt.

However I echo the advice of don't buy too much until you get comfortable with the dress code.
Zara.

I had this problem OP.
I ended up getting a ruffley blouse from peacocks (gorgeous) and apparently i had to go 2 sizes bigger than my actual size in tousers :s-smilie: silly things smart clothes :frown:
Reiss, FCUK, TK Maxx, Austin Reed, Karen Millen
Has nobody mentioned Oasis yet? They do fab pencil skirts, blouses, dresses, jumpers, cardigans...... wish I could buy the lot!
Thank you guys!! I'll have another look tomorrow.

I didn't have much luck today. Went into Next, and although they did have loads of things that would be perfect, they didn't have any in my size. One pair of trousers i did love, but a hook was missing, so i went to the two other stores on oxford st, but they didn't have it. :frown: Might order them online. Not sure if they suit my bodyshape though....
