Loughborough Uni, Chemical Engineering

iv been offered a place for chem eng, 5 yrs and what not. and i went to the open day with probably 30 people from around the country n i was buzzin, what was originally my last place choice became my firm because i was impressed with the presentation, the atmosphere, the department, and im sure that the other 30 students were impressed too.
i want to know why every1 is slating loughborough for chem eng, sayin its not a good uni and what not, because i thought it was fantastic, its in the top 5 for chemeng at the moment, and its been named best uni of the year just over 7 months ago in september... hmmm

hmm, im a 2nd year doing chem eng in lufbra.
i havent heard many people slating it, or do you mean people on this well-informed website ?

its a great department here, lufbra can hold its own against most of the other departments round the country. lol dont get me wrong, its not the best, but its no slouch when it comes to chem eng.

if you want advice, i'd be happy to answer your questions mate.

cheers to both of u. yeah its just on tsr, i personally thought it was amazin like i said before. just loved how everything looked secure around the campus. and the department looked top, as well as some of the doctors i met who were sound when i asked them questions.

ahh no problem mate, like i said, there are some class chem eng depts in the country, and are more widely-known than lufbra, but dont let that put you off.

do you remember the name of the "Dr." you asked when you visited?

That's the most important thing alongside if you like the feel for the place. The reputation of the uni as a whole is not significant. Loughborough is reknown for producing decent engineers anyway.

I'm a chemical engineer almost at the end of placement year so let me know if you need any info.

Gosh, had a group project meeting with Dr. Shama, and you get the impression that he should have really been a poet laureate or an art critic, he started talking about "choristers in the King's college Chapel" which was a welcome diversion i suppose.
dont know why his heart went for chem eng, he's a legend.

He's very eccentric. I think he's not really in touch with the real world but at the same time I find him quite funny. Dr Holdich on other hand is a dick, on the outside he seems funny but he really is arrogant and thinks he's always right.

Haha, eccentric, that would probably be someone like Dr Saha, he's my personal tutor, looks at us in a slightly creepy way during tutorials, but he did go through all that mass transfer stuff in good time.
Mate, i dont think i can find a single person in my year who likes Holdich, tho tbf, i havent had a problem with him yet.
Tarleton & Reilly are the best lecturers hands down, Dr Stapley is quite eccentric and cool too.

doctor shama was the main guy. and doctor das was another 1, he took my "interview"
Reply 12
Ahh, Dr. Das, he's a bit unusual in the way he speaks, Dr. Shama is a legend tho!
where else have you applied to mate? if you dont mind me asking.
Reply 13
Dr Das aka B.Das was an ok lecturer. He taught us half of reaction engineering alongside Malik which was my best module by a mile. Stapley and Sharma are the best lecturers though. Hankinson is my tutor, he doesn't like me.
Reply 14
hmm, we're at the tail-end of reaction engineering, and Das does contradict himself at times, Malik is an amazing lecturer, gosh even the fellow lecturers/profs dont get along with Hankinson. I thought Hankinson liked his "tutees"

i applied to leeds sheffield cambridge and newcastle aswel. didnt get into cambridge though which was a pisstake because both my interviews were flying and the test went well. i reckon the main guy didnt want me in though by the way he conducted my interview. he was always trying to make me sound stupid but i knew what i was on about which annoyed him =)

it was the TSA, thinking skills assessment. even though it was a load of balls. they literally ask the stupidest questions known to mankind, and they claim to test your thinking skills but all i could get from that exam is how much worthless **** you can cram into your head. my last exam is june 18th, but from now until then i have 10 exams! so ye, exciting :yep:
hello, everyone.
on other thread, some one said it is difficult to get a placement in chemical engineering and a graduate job in loughborough, is it true?:eek3:

In this current economic climate: yes because people want experienced chemical engineers.
Generally: no, chemical engineers are in demand.
