Motivations for exercising/going to the gym

I've been slacking off on my exercise routine at the gym, but I'm trying to psych myself into going again. Can anyone give tips to motivate gym slackers like myself into exercising/going to the gym?

I've been trying the "it's good for your health" motivation, but somehow, it's not strong enough to compel me to spend quality time on a treadmill. Help!

What are your reasons for wanting to go to the gym? Maybe if you define them and keep them clear in your head, it might help.. also, a specific goal might help. A generic "to get healthier" goal is hard to reach as it's hard to quantitatively measure it, but if you aim towards something (such as weight loss or certain performance times) then I find that to be more motivational. I've only started exercising myself for the Race for Life, and just that goal and deadline has been keeping me fairly focussed so far!!

If you're finding it tough to motivate yourself, and your main reason is your health, then maybe the gym isn't right for you? Maybe you'd be better off doing something like classes or team sports. Maybe you'd enjoy it a bit more if you could multi-task and use gym time as socialising time- and bring a friend along

I like going to the gym.. even though it makes me feel no better nor worse JUST because its great for stress relief.

It also gives me time by myself to think. However, Why do i have the feeling that im the only one ??

Oh and I like to escape from the house sometimes and its a good excuse.
Don't run on a treadmil! When i did that it was just boring and i didnt want to do it again.

Run around where you live, far better, not to mention the fresh air!

This isn't really a motivational tip but i arrange to a meet a friend at the gym and then i have to go because they are expecting me, whereas if you decide you're going tomorrow the only thing that can make you is you. xx

Great, great  Thanks for the tips guys! If you (or anyone) have more tips, pls do keep them coming!
Imagine yourself in some crazy fantasty story (this is what my friend told me to do) and think of some horrible strange punishment if you don't go... example... you're a swedish prince/princess and if you don't go to the gym the big blue sea monster will come and eat you for supper and you won't get a crown or a robe or a castle because you'll be eaten.
There ya go

If you can't get motivated, you don't want it bad enough. Simple as that.
there is a noise girls make when they feel my arm, its kind of like an omg giggle with a hint of 'I wonder what the rest of you looks like'....

thats a nice bonus to be honest, but ultimately it comes down to you, If you don't like the gym then don't go... stop going to the gym and stop taking up space that hard working people like me need.

If you really are interested then try writting down your current lifts on paper, take a couple of polaroids, and get a buddy to come with you. Hide the polarides and forget about them for a few months. When you are there with your buddy compete with him, see who can run the longest, the fastest, who has the best bench and squat... then in 3-4 months take another polaroid and compare with the ones you took at first.

Worked for the laziest f*cker I know anyway

This applies to me too. Exercising is the only thing which can take me away from my life - when I'm swimming laps I concentrate in my head on what number I'm on so I can't think about anything else and when I'm doing abs/aerobics I'm fighting so hard to keep going that I can't think about anything else.
Seriously, if you're having a tough time and you need to get 'out' of it (in your own head), exercise works.
