Corpus Christi vs Sidney Sussex

Corpus will push you much, much harder. Sidney have a stronger emphasis (amongst the students) on participation in extra-curricular stuff. We have very good law results, but you shouldn't really choose a college on the basis of their academic results as supervisors come from different colleges. Lots of Sidney lawyers join the official drinking societies and socialise together, not least because of our very own Law Library, which is excellent.

Comparing Sidney with Corpus - Corpus is older, slightly closer to Sidgwick but further from Sainsbury's, and is a bit smaller. Sidney has nicer grounds (i.e. stunning gardens).

I've tried to be objective but I am at Sidney and admit to having some issues with the meanness of some of the Corpus tutors. Balance is needed!

corpus has prof ibbetson who is both really nice (he was my personal tutor, but hes the law DoS) and also one of the top in his field.
When the gvt wanna check a law...hes one of their go to guys.

it's also v v v claustrophobic

Ditto Sidney.

depends how claustrophobic you make it. you could make yourself known in college, always be in the bar, get to know the drinking soc groups really well etc, and in those cases, yes, it could get a bit too intimate. but on the other hand you could be like some of my friends, still in that circle, but a litle more discreet, and you'll be fine

Yeah, I was mostly fine with it in my first year. I guess it's mainly this year that I've really wanted to escape from college.

im at corpus. I personally am a bit more uni involved than many- i always knew id be an out of college type cos i like 'doing' stuff. So wanted somewhere small to come back to as it would be easier to get to know more people. Claustrophobia is thus something I tend to avoid- treating corpus as a base is a good strategy, cos you always have the option of college when you want somewhere familial, but aren't bound by it.

sidney is in the centre of town. i could hear street noise when i was in the grounds, but it seems fine. corpus seems to have a law rep- students tend to br quite posh (though this is by no means a bad thing, just something i noticed in the lawyers).

people-wise, have some great friends here, but they are spread through years. a fair few out of college- this is facilitated by corpus' location- sidney is more isolated in this respect. something to bear in mind if you are a outward type.

That's not necessarily true - we're closer to different colleges. Clare, Tit Hall, Jesus, Christ's etc. all have nearby accommodation, plus we're closer to John's, Trinity, Caius... Plus you'll always bump into your friends at Sainsbury's.

Jacob: do I sound happy and fluffy enough?
?confused?
Sidney's much prettier IMO.
Really! I thought that corpus was prettier and that was what was swinging it for me. It seems more archaic and i prefer the architecture. IMO that is

He's a Professor of Civil Law (I.E. Roman Law...) so bearing in mind that English Law isn't based on Roman Law, why would the government go to Ibbetson when they "wana check a law"... sorry that's abit ridiculous. Although in his field, he is of course a leading academic, like every Law Dos in every college!
P.s I'm at Fitz and we're pretty big on Law too, we have a great Law library on site, and 3 resident Law Supervisors who all are faculty lecturers and pretty outstanding in their respective fields- plus we have squirrels!!

Oh, well Clare does as well then, and we've got someone called Lipstein or something as well. Apparently he's great and all the lawyers want to hug him, dunno if he's a lawyer or a mascot...
