i went... however many years ago it was... its cool, make sure you go for a p*** up, don't be sad and try to learn everything they tell you cos you won't remember a word...

i put a catheter in a plastic urethra and water started leaking all over the floor... then i found out that that actually happens quite often...

it doesn't help that much, just lets you know how much work experience you need etc... but it is worth the money

cool thats me def going then

I went 2 medsim was pretty good! Deffo go out when you're there! :tsr:

I went in 2003... was pretty fun. Met lots of people. The lectures were a real insight into different branches of medicine.
But I wouldnt pay £200 for it again. A lot of the info you could find yourself by talking to any doctor, but this way you get to meet new people and dont have to do any work to get the info lol

Total crap! There isn;t a single med school that takes medlink or medsim as anything other than an expensive jaunt for those who can afford it.

These courses are probably useful if you still have yet to make your mind up about persuing a career in medicine, otherwise it's fairly pointless!

i had to save up my work money to go!! plus my parents aint loaded like the ppl i met there and i dont go 2 private school like the few hundred ppl i met!! didnt speak 2 a single person from a comprehensive school.

it aint worth goin for the medical side cause its a load of s**t, but the other aspects r good, ie goin out at night to clubs!

Don't Go! It's not worth the money. Sure it tells you stuff, but it isn't worth £200+ to find it out.

I went last year, and it was cool to meet loadsa people, but after that, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The amount of people that go is huge, so it won't make any difference to your application, your best to go do some work experience because it will look a lot better on ur PS and it won't waste your money.

Medlink, also, is just a load of lectures, there's a hour or so's worth of clinical skills but I felt that it had just been thrown together.

Also, your obligued to buy a white lab coat for the clinical skills, that's about another £20, but there was no point what so ever in buying one!

If you want anymore information about medlink, feel free to ask any questions by PMing me.

I would strongly advise you don't go!

Cheers

Furthermore Dr Gary Craven is not a medical doctor. Check the GMC website if you want confirmation.

I remember you saying that before, still shocks me!

EDIT: There's also a medlink forum, I tried to inform people about Craven and got banned :frown:

Isn't he some sort of motivational speaker?

well to be honest it depends if u can afford it.i havent actually been but my mates went last year and my sister has been in the past.my mates said that they got more out of going out in the evening than the lectures. it wont help ur application significantly because admission tutors will just think you have bought urself some brownie points. if u speak to doctors and do work experience and some voluntary work u will be much better off. Unis are looking for commited people to medicine not people who can buy their way in. Equal opportunities and all that. Want anymore help jus PMsg me.

I went to Medsim and Medsix (which I think is like Medlink). Medsix was rubbish, I didn't learn anything I wouldn't have been able to find out on my own, but Medsim was good, we got to do loads of clinical stuff, e.g. doing ultrasounds on each other, taking blood, and doing injections (into a pretend piece of skin!) and other stuff. £200 is a lot of money, luckily for me because I'm from a 'deprived' area, I got it paid for me, but I think pretty much everyone else was from a private school, or at least had well off parents.

Having said that, everyone was really nice, and it gave me a chance to look around the uni and speak to med students and doctors and stuff.

I don't think it looks that amazing on your PS though, because so many people go on the 'workshop' courses now.
