thank god I finally see someone else doing the same text as me! Yep Im doing WJEC as well, you just need to know your critics inside out. The ones my teacher has given me sheets on are Derek Brewer, Helen Cooper, Winthrop Wetherbee, David Williams and a couple more.
Also buy the york notes for it that is quite helpful. I know how you feel, in all my other english essays i get As and Bs, and in Chaucer I've been getting Cs and Ds.
What critics have you got info on? xx

Im a bit worried cos if your teacher hasnt given you any critics notes and your doing the same exam as me how is your class gonna pass?!! is your exam on the 15th June or something like that?
I got my York notes from the school library cos I couldnt find it anywhere either, how about looking on ebay or amazon.co.uk?

Derek Brewer "the fable of Cock and Fox is in origin comical rather than satiric". "Chaucer adds marital, sexual, rhetorical, social, linguistic jokes".
"The main action of the story is postponed to the end because Chaucer embellishes the talk between cock and hen".
"Chaucer ponders yet again the problems of predestination and foreknowledge, but they arise out of the concern of a farmyard fowl who has dreamt about a fox."
Helen Cooper "The plain style of the opening enlarges to accommodate Chauntecleer's instinctive astronomical knowledge".
"Even [chauntecleer], morever, forgets the point in his exempla on the significance of dreams except in so far they enable him to defy her laxatives".
"Free will and predestination may be issues of colossal importance, but not when applied to a rooster."

I'll add some more in a few mins! Hope they help  x

Winthrop Wetherbee "from the opening lines we see style straining to outgrow the limits of the humble story."
"his[nun's priest's] tone grows self-important, and his rhetoric begins to assume his own momentum".
"But Chauntecleer is as vulnerable as his narrator to the seductions of eloquence."
"As the story proceeds, the narrator's guileless pretentiousness ...no more clearly focused on Chauntecleer's situation than the tale of little King kenelm."
"the nun's priest's tact is flawless; it is never precisely his story or its hero that we take seriously."
"his genial invitation to locate the substance of his narrative "take the rfuit and let the chaf be still," can seem almost a taunt."

Also, can people put up past exam questions that they have done for this exam so i can do some extra practice before 15th June? Thanx a lot x

I'm doing Chaucer as well, but critics quotes are NOT required to get an A grade, all the examiners want to see for A04 is:
1. your opinion
2. possible different interpretations of parts of the text/specific lines
3. how an audience in Chaucer's period may have viewed a particular part differently to a modern audience due to differences in society/beliefs
