If you look, at the bottom of the picture.

It is not stupid, in fact it is rather clever.

Is it wrong that the spider one turns me on?

[edit]
I mean, check out the ass on that spider.

Reply 5

Yes. That's wrong. :p:

The girl on the bed does it for me.

So representing people who have aids as disgusting, venemous, objects of fear is a good thing? Pretty ill-thought out if you ask me.

It shows that having unprotected sex will be a gamble, you could be signing your own death sentence.

I have seen another AIDs advert that had this girl handcuffed to a bed with this guy on top of her doing it in a remote mountain cottage. The guy siddenly drops dead and there is nothing she can do, also, equally effective.

They aren't, but they have those things inside them. They carry the means of your death within them just like the spider and the scorpion.

hardly.

The virus is the "creature" as it were - that kills you.

In reality of course that is the case, but in these pictures it's not just the virus that is being represented as a 'creature', it's the whole person.

And obviously the main point of the picture is that unprotected sex is a gamble, but if these posters became really widespread, then as soon as someone said AIDS they would think of that poster, and think of the 'vile creature'.

They're obviously not doing that on purpose, I just think some more care and thought could have been taken.

I know in reality they aren't, but that's not the way the poster is presenting them.

I hate them!

Especially the spider one

Care and thought might render the ads less effective. Yes, they may upset some people, but that's just hard cheese, really ; they're intended to save lives.

Not care and thought as the output of the campaign, but they could have realised one of the representations they're presenting. There are other ways of doing it (as mentioned above) that can still be shocking and effective yet not portray aids sufferers as monsters.

nobody got anywhere by saying "oh yes, they're really very nice people on the whole, but *do* remember to use a condom. please."

No, but they could have said "oh yes, they're really very nice people on the whole, but the virus they have can kill you and make your life hell so *do* remember to use a condom. or die", instead of "oh yes, they're vile vile people these aids sufferers, they can kill you as soon as look at you so stay away from the venomous creatures at all costs"
