I'm thinking about staying over holidays as well because I live too far away, so you'll have me for company!
Catholicism... there is something to find out more about... oh the luxury of being a protestant (but catholic leaning) quaker in a lapsed catholic famiy.

Morning Mass?

as for staying in cambridge during the christmas term... i once saw a fantastic society website called 'Christmas College Cambridge' for all those thinking of doing just that.

I really can't see you wanting to stay outside of term. There'll be no one here, it's depressing. It's good for getting work done but not much else. Also means you have to pay extra for your room. In Trinity you can get a rebate on your rent if you get out by a certain date- don't know if that'll happen this year though.

I might take some photos round college over the next few days- shall I post them up on here?
sounds like a plan.

Some people do stay over christmas and they get toghether for christmas meals and for midnight mass at Kings etc etc

Uh, mass was probably the wrong word to use - just mixing up Danish words... I'm not a Catholic though, I'm a Protestant out of a family of Protestant vicars. But I definitely like Ratzinger, and I think he's very good for the Church. (I know that one was a bit out of topic - Trinity Gossip).

And Puppy, do post your pictures. Lots of people waiting for them

Depends, some colleges chuck out all home students straight after the end of term so they can use their rooms for interviewees. It gets very quiet though.

Will - are your lot trying to go to Henley? I think our men are sending a IV, not sure about the women.

I think there is some sort of plan in the pipeline, i dunno how realistic it is. I havent got henley written down on my race schedule, but it doesnt go beyond bumps though. I've definitely heard it mentioned though. Would be exciting to enter!

Or make you not want to go! I'll try to take a selection showing cambridge life. Like ppl puking outside clubs etc. and tourists getting in your way.

Oooo you're Classics at Trinity, you'll be on the same course as me then, I start part 1A next year (this was my prelim year)
Hm i'm really confused about accomodation thingies... At Downing I know that rooms are based on a 30 weeks contract but since terms are only 8 weeks that surely means that they dont chuck students out immediately after the end of term, right?

well term begins on a thursday and ends on a wednesday. you HAVE to turn up 2 days before the start of term, most people turn up 3 or 4 days in advance. Then you can't leave for 2 days at the end of term either (it's what "keeping term" is all about), and once again people normally stay for 3 or 4 days. Overall that adds up to at least 1 week outside of term time, although as you correctly said, colleges entitle you to 10 weeks worth of accomodation per term - this basically means the earliest you can come back to college without paying extra is on the thursday before term. And the latest you can leave without paying extra (and requesting permission from the senior tutor...at least at emma that's the case) is the wednesday after end of term. That adds up to 10 weeks a term!
thx

Don't knock it till you've tried it. Having been on both ends - the vomiting and the standing around a vomiting friend in the street - i'd much rather be the former any day. can't say it happens so much at the moment, but i would never say never...

Sounds great!! Christmas at Trinity....

I bet it looks a lot nicer in my imagination though - snow and christmas trees and carols and bells from the chapel, etc. etc.
