out of the blue were v impressive i thought, well worth crashing for!!!
I'm sure Simon will be most pleased when I tell him (he's fast asleep for the first time in 48hours, so I'm trying not to wake him while I type! luckily, he's so exhausted he doesn't seem to be stirring!!!)
And how comes you got tickets to centre court, grrr, i live right next to wimbledon and have still yet to go there!
Simon & Simon (oxymoron and SeH) are both pros at getting tickets! we left Oxford at 4am, were in the queue for 5:30am and then instead of taking wrist bands for court 2, we queued for ground passes. we were one of first few ppl through and then we ran to the Ticket Resale line on Henman Hill and queued there all day (we were right near the front!!!) whilst enjoying the nice weather and tennis on big screen. There were 8 of us in total...half of us chose centre courts seats, the other half got court no1. we got them about 3:15pm and managed to see the end of the first match and all of the next two! I'd never been before, but it was amazing and I'll certainly go again..think next year we're thinking of camping out to get centre court tickets from the beginning!
Chloé: YAY! Did all you guys at keble pass? You already found out your individual marks? My tutors away until next week on Holiday, so hopefully I can find out my module marks (whether I want to is another story....hoping that since I have passed I might have got 50% rather than just scraping 40%).

Well done to everyone once again!!!
I havent spoken to everyone but the word on the street is we all did. Plus 2 distinctions which were 3rd and 10th in the year - Keble rules you see
YAY I PASSED!!!!!!!!!! Got the good news while sitting in centre court at Wimbledon!
Ah, that would explain why the announcer had to keep asking people to switch their phones off Congratulations anyway! I believe all but one of the Worcester physicists passed.
Apparently I got a middling distinction. All good. And everyone I know at Hertford passed, despite one guy getting 35 in CP3, but being passed anyway!
YAY!!!! Well done andy for the distinction!!!! Am quite relieved that a lot of you guys on here got distinctions...must now learn not to compare myself to you!
Oh, and he'll probably hate me for saying this but never mind....Simon got a distinction in biochem!!!
are oxford distinctions obtained by getting a certain percentage or are they awarded to a certain percentage of the pupils? I.e. are the scores normalised to split pupils in a standardised way or could potentially all students in one year get distinctions?

As I understand it you have to get over 70% on most of the papers (think in some subjects you have to get 70% on 3 of the papers and above 65% on the other one, but not entirely sure). I know that you were also expected to get 40%+ on the paper we didn't officially have to pass (2nd year here at Lincoln got a 77% average on all his compulsory papers but 14% on the short option and was refused a distinction!). I'm fairly certain they'll standardise the marks though so not everyone gets a distinction...oh well, I never need worry about that as it won't ever happen!

Ooh thanks - where did you see us ... Queens' or Magdalene? Both were impressive balls - better than any Oxford ones I've been to so far - hopefully that will change tonight with 3 more big ones!

I saw you at queens'. Obviously I wasn't anticipating seeing you guys but obviously certain, shall we say, events, facilitated our meeting! I was in the crowd during your second performance early in the morning, although i have no idea which one you are! Tbh I should have tried to "facilitate a meeting" at magdelene as well, but I had a fun enough time punting to grantchester as it was!

Here, Willa - I don't know what things are like at Cambridge, but here we're certainly not "pupils": in no way was I "taught" this year by anyone! But to answer your question, there was no normalisation for first year exams, unlike Finals, where you are pitted against everyone else in your year.
Having said that, I believe a certain amount of leniant marking was employed on our maths paper because it was far too hardcore. I think most people would agree. (And in no way am I bitter because it's the only paper I didn't get 70+ on.....)
Also, I'd just like to point out that Christ Church Commemoration Ball was aboslutely spectacular and by far the best college ball, ever. It's hard to think how they could have improved it. Food, drinks, performance art, hot air balloon rides, horse and carriage, gladiators duel, swings, about six huge music tents, orchestras, giant board games...it was all there.

I thought our maths paper was the easiest (though not easy) when we did them and my marks agreed - got 10% more in it than any of the others!
Easiest? Crikey - you must be comfortable with maths then! According to a guy I know whose tutor marked the paper, 50 people failed CP3 on the first marking. They had to...ahem..."adjust" the mark scheme.

which one did you think was best? I guess I'm pretty comfortable with maths, yeah, and I was fairly lucky because I'd done rotation matrices (in 2d) at a-level so I didn't have to try the first part B question about reciprocal vector sets!
Well done again everyone. Looks like everyone has done really well
My problem was choosing the wrong questions. I should have done the rotation matrix question and I should have done the waves on a string question. Its that that cost me a distinction. It was those 2 papers which cost me.
But to be honest I dont care. I am highly pleased with my results. I couldnt have asked for any better given how badly it felt that they went.
So assuming everyone on here has passed we can now go off and enjoy our vaction.
