Makeup advice?!

I've never really worn any makeup and have never felt the need to. My complexion's not that bad and I don't really break out in spots or anything. However, recently I thought I should start wearing makeup but I have no idea where to start or what to buy!

What does everyone here wear? What would you recommend? I have light brown skin, dark eyes, etc.

Is foundation a must?

Anything I should stay away from?

I reccomend Clinique! I went to them to have a make over (free!) and they showed me lots of new ideas. And their make up is really good quality, and only a tiny bit expensive

Brown eyeshadow suits almost everyone - maybe you should buy a cheap-ish palette with various shades on, so you can play around with them a bit and see what you like. Black mascara is similarly good, and generally a safe bet. Eyelash curlers are fun too, and work! You can get them in H&M for a pound or two, but make sure you use them BEFORE you put on mascara, because otherwise they can make your eyelashes fall out, apparantly. But eyes are a good place to start, because it's probably easiest to get right. Eyeliner is good too - liquid is tricky, but pencils are great. Play around a bit, putting it under or over your eyelashes, because everyone seems to do it a bit differently.
If you don't need foundation, don't use it. Getting a good colour is difficult, it's expensive, and if you don't need it there's no point. However, it's useful to have for days when you feel like wearing it, but I wouldn't regard it as an essential.
Lip gloss might be a good starting place as well. Generally, if you're doing fancy eye makeup, then leave your lips quite neutral; similarly, if you're using a noticeable lipstick, don't go overboard with eye stuff, otherwise it's a bit much.
I also like blusher a lot at the moment, but it's a bit tricky. Sometimes I put it on in the light of my room, then when I look in the bathroom mirror it's a little clownish, so remember to check new things in different lights before going out.

Disclaimer: I'm not that great at makeup

Do you want to start wearing it? When I first started wearing make-up (about 14/15) my mum took me to a make-up consultant at Debenhams where they showed me the kind of colours and types of foundation etc that suited me and my skin type. They also showed me how to apply them properly and the less is more approach to wearing make-up. A lot of the consultations are free too, so it may be a good idea to book one.

Foundation on skin that doesnt need it can be too much. Try a tinted moisturiser-No 7 goes on like a dream.
YSL touche eclat is a must buy-covers a multitude of sins!
Bronzer for cheekbones and a glow, avon and benefit do the best.
Mascara go for maybelline-great product and easy to apply.

They're your basics. If you've never done make up before go to body shop and No 7 conters and ask for a free demonstration. they'll demonstrate they're products but will show you some techniques too. Also phone the local colleges and go along as a participant for the students to practice on you. Great tips and advice for free.

hey adsur i read somewhere you are also asian

i have a similar colouring to you. foundation isnt necessary if you have naturally clear skin, just maybe tinted moisturiser. being asian, its hard to get a correct colour foundation, but MAC and Rimmel are good. i just wear Rimmel Concealer, and the foundation in Warm Beige when/where needed. The Body Shop do some nice dark-skin makeups and makeovers for £10
asian skins tend to look awful and greyish with the wrong face powder so try to get one that matches your skin exaclty- again Rimmel is best.
its well worth spending alot of cash on foundation, concealer or/and powder since they are the basics
the rest of the makeup depends on what look you like.

i find dark eyes look nice with black kohl pencil eyeliner but this might be a bit heavy for you. mascara always looks good on everyone, get a nice black one- Superdrug's Miss Sporty XXL long lashes £2.50 is the best i've tried, better than loreal or maybelline.

the last thing i lov is lipstick/gloss. get the right colour and you'll look fantastic.im asian looking and i never leave my house without my beloved red lipstick

go to the cheap miss sporty/Boots 17 range first as everything is cheap and you can buy what you like, and throw it out if you dislike it, and upgrade to a better brand if you lov it.

for me the basics are concealer, powder, red lipstick and eyebrow pencil.but its whatever works for u

a good start woulb probably be a powder, black mascara and a lip gloss - when you get used to it, you can add eye-liners, yey-shadows etc.
shop assistants at Sephora are usually v helpful

i lov sephora! too bad it so far away. they are so great for makeup- line everythng up according to colour!

really the way forward is to find the look you are going for, and be inspired. for me i was inspired by the geisha look hence the way i look in the profile pic- i wear heavy kohl, eyebrows drawn on and bright lipstick. for some, they go for the hip hop look with weird looking heavy bright eyemakeup, and colourless lipgloss.

I'd say you shouldn't wear make up. The natural look is always better.

I don't wear alot of makeup either. But i find a bit of cover up and a slight tint of blusher works wonders - especially if you suffer from dark circles.

just go for basics like mascara and eyeliner/shadow and a bit of lip gloss. vaseline will do for that!

asian colourings i would say go for purple/plum colours to really flatter you. greens can also work really well. i love my purple eyeliner! would also totally recommend practising with liquid liner it looks soo good. urban decay do really cool ones in lots of various colours apart from the typical black which i find can be way too strong sometimes.
and also do the black pencil inside the eyes that looks good and is really easy u cant go wrong!

i would say steer clear of the foundation... if u dont need it dont use it. obviously it can make a big difference to your look but its a big expense and hassle if its not really necessary. you're young and so have youthful skin; dont cover it up with foundation! leave it for when youre old :p:

the BEST test for choosing makeup is to hold gold then silver against your face and wrist.if gold looks better, go for warm orangy reds, browns, warm reddish purples and choose warm tones in hairdye and eyeshadow. on cool toned people pinks and blues look best

I used to wear foundation a lot and I used Max Factor colour adapt, but it's too heavy in the summer so I've switched to Boots Natural Collection tinted moituriser. I use a little concealer for dark cicles (put it under them, not on them, as it reflects the light and looks better) and I also wear that anti-red stuff (it's green) because I get red cheeks, therefore I never wear blusher. I always wear powder for a nice velvety finish but if you have oily skin then try one with oil conrtol because it lasts longer and prevents shine from coming through.
I always always curl my eyelashes and wear mascara (I use MaxFactor something or other...)
Lips: just vaseline or lipbalm.
During the day my makeup is eally simple, just to make me look presentable and awake. Don't wear loads of makeup during the day because it looks like you're trying to hard and in the daylight it looks bad and also when you dress up for a night out you'll look no different!!
Have fun playing around. You and your friends could give each other makeovers!!

*shrug* I just wear eyeliner, mascara and some lip balm at the most.

I rarely wear much makeup.

Usually just concealer if it is needed, some mascara and lip balm. I just cannot get the hang of eyeliner which makes me sad as I really love wearing it if I go out :frown:

My essential is my lip balm..

This does mean that when it comes to applying makeup for going out it looks awful because I just can't get it right..
