I'd suggest you go and talk to someone in university (maybe your personal tutor - they're always a good starting place ... or someone in the academic registry?). Only they'll be able to tell you really. Hope you're okay though!

It can be done, one of the girls on my course was quite seriously ill and managed to do it.

Just wondering as if anyone around can enlighten me with the process of "deferring" my university's exams (possibly first two, perhaps, on medical grounds) in the way that I can take it back again by June, WITHOUT having my marks capped at just 40% ???

what do you mean "having my marks capped at just 40%"

Students who do "resits" (after failing their exam) can't get more than 40% EVEN if they, for example, scored 100% in that particular resit of that particular module exam. However, I would like to "defer" the exam instead, which allows me to give exams at later time WITHOUT having to risk marks being capped at 40%. (provided that I can prove a circumstance that's beyond my control).

But if I do the exam and hash things up in it, I'll end-up resiting it & doing so won't let me get more than 40% :frown: (which could affect the whole degree of mine).

I've scored over 70% in each of the courseworks so far & simply not doing well in exam (which is worth 70% of the overall marks) would affect the overall marks for each module. I've around 5 exams this year, each with 30 credits cos of being a FINAL YEAR.

It's rather annoying, as you can imagine, working hard scoring good marks in every single coursework, however, due to the severe pain with my ears from time to time over the past few days, makes it rather impossible to stay active, which SERIOUSLY affects my revision by not being able to spend as much time as I should be.

Sadly, due to today's bank holiday, I'll have to visit my GP tomorrow & try getting a letter off him stating this ear pain, which I can use as a proof of GENUINELY being ill (as it sounds like an EXCUSE doing something like this, presently ......... with others thinking of me trying to dodge exam, which is not quite the case).

Well, nevermind, guess once I manage to persuade university that what I'm saying is cent percent true, as opposed to an excuse, I would be allowed to "defer" my exams in August, which will then be marked normally (rather than capped at 40%).

Thought I would overcome with this pain by the time I start my exam (4th May), however, the weekend past failed to show any improvement & the pain seems worsening.

I rather let the time itself be the judge of what happens next.

Seems like a rather sensible idea, however, today's bank holiday will stop me meeting my personal turor, which I'll have to delay it, at least tomorrow.

Other than the severe pain in ear, I suppose, I'm doing well (at least, not in as bad state as my bank a/c is :frown:

Talk to your personal tutor/DoS-type person and explain the situation - my brother managed to get ALL his work and exams deferred until September because of his glandular fever. You'll need a doctor's note (generally dated and on headed paper) as well.

At my old uni you could apply to defer but you didnt find out the result of the decision till after the exam has happened as thats when the board met. If its a good reason and you have any evidence to back it up it should be ok. Go to you personal tutor to discuss.
