Sleep

Theres always too many distractions like computer and t.v, that stops me from going to sleep. i now look exhausted and just wish i could control myself and relax and go to sleep! If i go to bed earlier than 12 i just end up lying there till 12, also do you think the whole one hour before 12 is worth 2 hours after is true?

I get the best sleep when I go to bed at something ridiculous like 9pm. If I'm in bed at twelve, it takes me two hours to drop off. Odd that.
For remedies. Nytol was the best, Natrasleep didn't work. But I'm not suggesting you try these unless things get really bad.

I used to be up until 3-4am every night just messing about online or reading something. I would then wake up at 6-8am and get up and carry on with a normal day. It made me look horrible, my eyes are easily darkened by lack of sleep.
I forced myself to go to bed at 11-midnight for a few nights and wouldn't get up until after 8am. It seemed to help to get myself into a pattern of being tired. I was ill just as I was starting to get the pattern back which made me sleep from very early..and fall asleep on buses etc. I guess that helped a lot.

It is worth it though, get into a routine. Force yourself to go to bed before midnight. If you want to watch some tv have a look in the tv guide and highlight the shows you want to watch until about 11ish, turn the tv off after these.
Turn the computer off by midnight. If you are finding it hard to get to sleep, for the hour before you go to bed don't watch tv or use the computer. Just listen to some music or read a book. Let yourself wind down.

It is all about a routine. I dont think an hour before is really worth two after, but the point is that whatever you do, you should get between 6 and 8 hours of sleep a day on a regular basis. I used to mess around online and stuff and listen to music until 4am-6am and sometimes just stay up the whole night, and get up at 8pm and stuff, but not seeing sunshine for a few days gets to you.

If you do get into a regular routine, you will feel much better for it, I promise you! Don't use aids to sleep because you may end up reliant on them. Just make sure you are tired to really want to go to bed at around midnight, and it may be tough for a couple of days, but also make sure you get up at 7am-8am, so the next day you will feel tired around midnight, and enforce the cycle/routine on yourself.

I hope not! I've only been to bed before midnight twice in the last two years, and both of them were when I was required to get up before 6 :frown:

I'm terrible when it comes to sleep! I'm always tired, even if I get an 8 hour night, so I'm always having naps in the middle of the day which sometimes last 3 hours!

No. I've never actually heard of that before, and I definately don't agree with it. There are four main stages of sleep before you hit REM sleep. We move through these stages several times through the night in cycles of about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You are in deepest sleep in stage four and REM is the period in which you are dreaming... these are the most important stages of sleep, so I'm guessing that either side of 12 providing you have enough sleep in each of these stages you'll be ok.
