Hi peole... could someone please explain to me about how to work out this question and also what topic this comes under.. as i cant seem to find it in my revision guide or mathwatch cd.

its trig, i think :smile:
but if its from a past paper, it might be a mix of topics so trig pythag and so on

You would use the sine section.

x / 10 = sin70

x = (10)(sin70)

to find EF :

sin20 = EF/10
(sin20) x 10 = EF

or

cos70 = EF/10
(cos70) x 10 = EF

Um,

cos 70 = EF / 10

EF = 0.342*10

It's all about applying trigonometric ratios.

yup its non calculator and this question has appeared on 2 out of the 3 past papers ive done

Look on their location in profilee .. :rolleyes:


cos F = A/H (adjacent /hypotenuse)
F = 70 so cosF = 0.342 (according to the table)
0.342 = EF /10
3.24 = EF

hope that makes sense/is right lol

It's basic trig but instead of having to use your calculator they give you the solutions. Use the Sine rule. EF is the opposite angle (call it x). It's easy because they tell you what sin20 is.

x/10=sin20
x=10(0.324)
x=3.24
