Hey!! Im doing it!!

Really doing in my pants right now - so scared!!! :frown:((

I think Test tube reactions will come up and maybe finding the rate of reaction or organic preparation for planning... Lets hope for these as im revising for these...

Yeah Analysing part will kill me straight away. I suck at it. Only if its Ka and Kc i can kind of cope... Maybe...

Good luck!!

Yay someone else who is doing it! yeah i think might be reactions could come up, because it's been titration the past couple of years, which means they could ask titration in the other bits, and yeah you're right organic synthesis could come up in the plan because thats the only place they could really ask you about it.

I'm going to just go through the past papers, the planning for some of them have been a same. I've done up rough plans for the final section on the ones that have come up.

I wish i had more time for it though, i've been wasting too much time trying to learn for the crappy bio exam i got tomorrow :frown:

Oh no!! That majorly sucks. Good luck for the bio exam.

Go to : www.a-levelchemistry.co.uk for amazing practical tips. :yep:

Yea i got 2 physics exams on the day of the chem prac exam in the afternoon. So im revising for those too. :frown:
I think its going to observation aka test tube reactions too, teacher seemed to be heavily hinting that it was. Not done any work for it so far have S1 tomorrow.

Nicceeeee....

Thanks for 'inside' information!!
This is gonna sound really stupid but what do you mean by organic synthesis?
in terms of plans

A simple organic preparation. They will provide us some info about the stuff we need to make i.e. aspirin (PLEASE GOD LET IT BE ASPIRIN) and ask HOW we will go about doing that. All that bull about what mass to use, volumes, the scale. The hardest part is describing the experiment itself. We need to know about how to use the Reflux equipment etc. :s-smilie:

You just need to research some basics about making organic compounds i.e. reflux (cos its used like everywhere...).

I HATE ORGANIC CHEMISTRY SOO MUCH!!!   Lets hope the q isnt like impossible or i'll actually cry.
Oh god no i really dont want a plan on this. Im trying to do one now off that a level chemistry website homework exercise 5 to be precise. Its awful i hate it! I got to part 4 and now im completely stuck. Why cant it just be on kc or something simple :-(

Haha because its an evil organisation intent on killing off all our braincells and then laughing evilly.

And Im going to do model answers for each planning question ever tomorrow. I suggest you try and do the same cos it really helps.

Have fun. I am. SO MUCH FUN.

Yeah I think I'm gonna start that now just one more thing, does this mean we need to know the procedure for making asprin like off by heart?

Well it will help for one of the sections of the question. Just learn the basic procedure, synthesis and then collection and purification. Especially the latter. :yep: It just will be easier for you to just list everything rather than guess and confuse yourself and waste time.

This is so very true, I've just see the procedure and I know it thankgod. It's one of the things that's stuck in my head funnily enough.
I'm just trying to figure out how to work out theoretical mass now, any help on that  it's the calculations which I suck at :frown:
Implementation : Reactions of some organic compounds
Analysis & Evaluation : Determination of the percentage of Fe2+ in a mixture of Fe2+ and Fe3+ using potassium dichromate
Planning: Something to do with an acid

This is my guess for whats comming up, i reckon and analysis & evaultion could either be what i had above of an Acid question and vice versa.

That analysis and eval doesn't sound to bad, just did some practice with a question like that

I havent actually done the exercises yet. *tomorrow is my day* Im revising for physics right now.

However: for mass - always look at what you're given. Are you doing exercise 5? The phenyl... blah blah one??

ALWAYS work out moles first!! It says that 1g of phenyl ammonium chloride is used. So use mol = mass/Mr. You know mass, you know Mr.

When you have moles, these are the same for the phenyl ethanamide as its equimolar quantities. So you do mass = mol * Mr.

 Did that help? If not - ask away.

I hope Analysis + evaluation is the acid bit. It prob wont come up in planning as it has been on last year.
yeah true so planning is either 'Determination of the percentage of Fe2+ in a mixture of Fe2+ and Fe3+ using potassium dichromate' or a preparation one.

yeah i got that thanks and got the right answer for that little bit, it's the next bit that i'm stuck on.
The theoretical mass for the 1g is 1.04 which i got. But then it's asking for the actual mass for 5g and I have to bear in mind that I do not obtain the theoretical yield for the product. The answers meant to be 3.64 but I'm not getting that unfortunately.
Thankyou so much for helping me btw rep +
