You can't really compare them like that.

I know that they are completely different exams in terms of the style of the questions, but in terms of difficulty, what do you think a distinction would be worth in STEP?

Basically...
I need to take Maths AEA. I just checked my exam entries, and..
I forgot (?) to enter for it somehow, or there's been a mistake. I had to enter for it externally, as with AEA Econ and AEA Psych, as the school don't offer it, and well I haven't been entered for AEA Maths. Maybe I just forgot! :o:
It's part of my offer. So I have to take it.
What can I do now?
And how much is this going to set me back? =.=

Sorry to hijack the thread

And yeah, it's a lot easier than STEP, at least STEP II and III, from what I've heard...

Reply 5

It's much more consistent than STEP, I think.

I got around 75% on pretty much all the practice papers I did. They have a habit of sticking a 6-part vectors question at the end as well.

A distinction is probably somewhere around a 1 STEP I, but they're very different exams.

You'll need to e-mail LSE and tell them what's happened. Mention that you'd be up for sitting STEP (don't say which paper) and give a brief explanation for how it's a hard maths exam used for admissions into maths courses at universities like Cambridge and Warwick.

You can still sit it, but you will have to pay some extortionate late fees.

Thanks mate- but when can you enter for STEP, and when's the exam?

I think entry for STEP can be left quite late, but get it done ASAP. I don't know the details - search on Google for STEP maths and it'll take you to the official website. The exam will be in the same week as the AEA, usually around the 23rd of June or something.

NesQuik says you can still enter for the AEA, so try doing that too.

I'd recommend paying a bit extra for AEA if you can. Even if you're one of the few that do end up finding STEP I easier than AEA, the style will probably take more getting used to and there isn't much time left.

This ******* exam's gonna make me broke :frown:
Quick call to Edexcel- "A mistake has been made, but not on the part of Edexcel, therefore triple the fees will be charged." That means £119.70 just to enter =\ + the £50 the centre want to invigilate the 3 hour exam...
so... £169.70 just to sit a Maths exam? :frown:
I then also checked out STEP as you said to, it's £51.90 if I enter by the 29th March (would have cost £39.00 if on time, so not too much of an increase!)...
I know which one I'd rather take now!

Since you've done STEP though, what's the main difference? This is gonna sound really ignorant and stupid, but... :o:
does STEP include Mechanics and Stats too?
