Coughs 'n' sneezes!

My flatmate's got a really nasty cough that's been bugging her for about 4-5 days now. She says her chest feels tight and uncomfortable and she has trouble talking for long without having a coughing fit and her voice nearly disappearing. She's feeling 'under the weather' apparently but doesn't really have any specific symptoms apart from the cough, so doesn't want to go to the doctor. At what point should I drag her down there? Is there anything I can do to make her feel better? Thanks.

Tell her she's not a doctor and is therefore in no position to diagnose herself. She should go and see someone just to make sure it's not something more serious. Even if it is just a nasty cough, they might be able to prescribe something to make it go away quicker. Being ill is horrible.

At the very least, get her to call NHS direct.

Take her shopping and drag her into a pharmacy? Pharmacists are qualified to know whether they can sell something over the counter or whether the person needs referring to the doctors. It sounds nasty, has she not tried anything for it?
