That London School of Elite Snobs thread was baseless as well. Reading it did annoy me at first because while I've been here I've met so many different people and so few of them fit that description. That doesn't mean nobody does - but you're almost certainly going to find at least some "snobs" anywhere you go.

Although I would actually say there's a positive minority at LSE compared to other comparable universities. Especially with there being so many people from abroad: it's just a huge mix of different perspectives, opinions and so on. Course you agree with some and you don't agree with others but that's half the fun, (like you were saying with the: "man, woman, punk, trendy, rich, poor").

As for this "club"...well I don't think there are any reasonable grounds for stopping it (there definitely aren't legally..) and, to be honest, anyone who wants to be part of it who fits the "criteria" can and should be able to. It's not the kind of place I'd sign up to because I'd probably rather be at a pub (to be honest lol!!) with a few mates I've met here.

you're there already? cool.. are you enjoying it?

in your opinion, i'm 20 (therefore mature student), do you think i'll have problems fitting in?

and can you please tell me a bit about workload, teaching methods, exams etc...? anything else you can add.. e.g. is the first year hard, whats the workload like, do first year results count towards final grade?

your help would be much appreciated!

This thread has told me all that I need to know about the club. It is reserved for a particular group of people: it is an elitest remnant of the past. It is illogical and discriminatory.

As far as I can see the fact that you wen to a PRIVATE school as opposed to another type would not prevent you from using their facilities nor from being a fully functional member.

All-boys clubs suck as well (as do all girls clubs! - St Hilda's College, Oxford for instance).

I'll second that motion though i have nothing against private school students themselves.

No. I am sorry if that is the impression I gave. I have absolutely NOTHING against those who go to private schools!

well i think we have established that both of your spelling is simply ****

I have looked back, and all my spelling mistakes were typos. And obviously typos at that!
It is laughable that because of a differing in views (for that is the only possible reason for the above comment), you attack petty spelling mistakes. Especially on a forum!

Excuse me? :thumpdown

If you have something intelligent to contribute to this discussion, then please do. If however, you insist on making pathetic comments, such as the above, then please refrain from posting on this thread. Thank you.

Don't worry about the age thing- I'm 19 and all of my friends will be either 19 or 20 when we start university. I've never heard of Whitefileds school, where is it?

Being 20 does not make you a mature student!

 thanx!

i've been really worried about fitting in considering most students start uni at 18...

but, only time can tell, and the people here seem cool so i'm sure it will be ok!

Yeah you'll fit in fine. It's about who you are that counts and your age is generally irrelevant. At LSE there are more mature students than at most universities so it's even less important.

And for the other questions. Well the workload can be quite tough and I expect all of your course will be based on examinations. There's still plenty of time to go out and enjoy yourself/make friends/party and so on. It's good in that way. Actually, the strong emphasis on examinations means you have even more time to go out...as long as you learn enough material throughout the year/are a good reviser/both then you should be fine when it comes to exams. You aren't stuck having to devote all your time to coursework which is a big bonus when it comes to chilling out and does make your time during the year less stressful. Course exam time is super-stressful; some people even sleep in the library lol..

As other people have said, the average age is higher than that. There are many people who come from overseas and that older than 18, that is probably the average for English students (who are a minority).

About the 21 years, whoaaahh .. I am getting old!!
