Who is taking oxytetracycline?

I have been prescribed this tablet by my doctor and i'm just wondering what everyone who is on it or who was on it, thinks of it. How long did it take for ur acne to clear up once u have started taking the tablet. I'm really eager to know and hopefully i won't be disappointed with this antibiotic. i also want to know whether u have experienced any side affects (that is if you had any) while being on this antibiotic.

i used to take vibramycin which is in the tetracylin family.

it worked great. i have no evidence of the previous acne remaining. if i recall it started working quite soon after i started taking it. but it took many years for the acne to fully disappear.

That sounds ominous! Why me?

i used to take it. it didn't entirely help me, but a change in diet and more exercise did help me. then again i didn't really have what you'd call proper acne. it did help a little though, but the effects didn't show until after about 3 to 4 weeks (i had a big breakout before that too, but apparently thats common).

im taking erythromycin atm and have been taking stuff for ages but this + the fact i am eating healthier, exercising every day, getting more sun and use benzoyl peroxide 2.5% on my skin (v.recommended) means i am improving. having said that ice thought i was improving before so... I think there are like 3 or 4 different oral antibiotics they prescribe which are all equally highly rated before they put u on roaccutane or accutane for the hardcore cases. I think roaccutane has some bad side effects tho :frown:

i did, and to some extent do still have. :frown:

I know that u r a medic student cos I've read some of ur previous threads. So I was relatively positive that u probably knew it was an antibiotic for acne. Sry for the sarcasm, it wasn't meant to sound ominous! lol

I hope I won't experience any major breakouts while i'm taking it. I really fear that now. :frown:

I didn't know so many people took the stuff, I was always put off by those documentaries about the depressed kids who killed themselves afterwards, or whose heads inflated.

I use Superdrug tea tree oil and spearmint facial soap. It dries the face out a bit but makes spots less distracting and harder to see.

i didn't either. i was quite shocked when i went to the doctor's with an ear infection and he offered something for my "acne". i thought i just had a couple of teenage spots. ah well not complaining!

Hey, just because we have spots doesn't mean we are not nutritious. lol
I ate a banana today and I had carrots and beans! I know loads of ppl without spots who have don't even know what fruits or vegetables are.

i think the suicidally depressed kids were taking roaccutane which supposedly can have some pretty horrible side effects, general oral and topical antiobiotics dont really have much risk (altho excess use u can get a stomach ulcer...)

there is a good scheme for ppl who want to use just over the counter stuff on acne.org

people can get acne for other reasons apart from eating unhealthily. A lot of ppl get it due to hormones

it wasnt "severe". not the massive bleeding acne you see all over some peoples faces and neck.

i had it on both cheeks and that was it. i'd had it for about a year though before my mum took my to the doctors. some trash about it destroying her beautiful sons face. i think she was humouring me

my pics are in the picture thread in the about forum. they arent huge, but you'll see i have fairly decent skin now.
